Some of the Sheratons that I have stayed in recently would HAVE to be free for me to stay there again. I have stayed at the Sheraton EWR, Long Island and Kansas City (Stadium area) in the last four months. All of the properties are run-down pretty bad – AC didn’t work in all of them, for example – and I don’t think a cosmetic renovation is going to cure the ills of these properties.
I love the SPG program – and consider myself fortunate when I can get a decent rate at a good property ($139 on Travelzoo right now for the W Seattle, for instance!), but Starwoods, across the board, have become too inconsistent to be my primary hotel loyalty program.
