Beginning May 7, Marriott will start offering Gold and Platinum elite members free internet, but only in the US (excluding Hawaii and US territories) and Canada. Obviously they’re following Hyatt and Starwood’s lead here, although both of those chains provide free internet globally. This is better than nothing, although Marriott has a long way to go before they have a competitive loyalty program, in my book.

IMO, Marriott’s offer is superior to the others because mid-tier gets it, not just top. International offering only matters to those who travel internationally, so this isn’t even a downside if you don’t.

What a strange logic. And if you don’t travel at all, no internet wasn’t a downside in US until now, too. Or if you stayed only in Fairfield Inns.

I really don’t know anybody not traveling international at least sometimes, for pleasure, especially if they are Golds or Platinums.

Hyatt Plat members (mid-level) have access to free internet as well. Hilton Gold (mid-level) can choose free Internet as an option via MyWay.

Also agree with Sharon – don’t travel and stay at home and all problems are solved.
