I figured I’d get an extra nice birthday gift from one of my best friends, United Airlines. Maybe a 777, or hell, I’d settle for Global Services, a million miles, or even a couple of systemwide upgrades or a few electronic certificates. ;)

But no, instead I get coal! For the first time ever I received the following message for a flight I’m taking on Thursday:

Seriously? What am I missing here? Since when does United “deny” upgrades, even if the cabin is totally full and I have a snowball’s chance in hell of clearing?

Although given the revenue I send their way, I guess I kind of deserve that… :D

It’s a bug that many others on FT have reported – happened to my MIL a few months ago. Finally got it cleared up, bit of a pain though. You know the deal – just call!

I can confirm that it is a bug. My LAX-SFO flight last month showed the exact same DENIED status but the upgrade cleared about 100 hours ahead.

    Keep your fingers crossed.

    Oh, and Happy Birthday! :-)

I got the same thing, but i thought i was because of equipment swap, the flight i ended up being denied upgrade didn’t even have a F cabin.

Lucky- Had the same thing yesterday. I called United and asked if I could still be waitlisted even though I didn’t have a chance. She said “Why would you think you don’t have a chance. Its looking pretty good.” I told her about my itinerary reflecting “denied” and she said she has never heard of that and shouldn’t be doing that. She confirmed I was still waitlisted and would probably get the upgrade. A few hours later I logged back in and sure enough I was back to waitlisted.

    Just call!

I got the same thing this week for my flight to LAX yesterday… UG cleared at T-4 hrs… but then no OLCI… weekend before I wasn’t on the GIDS until I went to the gate and he printed me a UG’d BP (swap to a 777 Int’l config :) )
