American Express has a pretty innovative promotion for Saturday, November 27. They’ve offering the first 100,000 people that register a $25 statement credit if they spend at least $25 at a small business on Saturday, November 27.

How does American Express define a small business?

Eligible merchants include any independently owned small businesses that accept the American Express Card. Purchases made online, at large, national chains, at franchised business locations and at government agencies are not eligible. Prepaid, corporate cards and ExpressPay transactions are not eligible.

As far as I can tell, any American Express credit card will qualify, even a co-branded one, and there’s a limit of one statement credit per person.

Very cool promotion, American Express!

Does anyone know if purchases made while in Europe will count as Small Business Transactions? I will be in Western Europe during the promotion. I know the card needs to be US issued but was not sure if overseas transactions were eligible.

Good question, wonder about Asia too, as I’ll be in Thailand…not sure if there are any qualifying businesses there…

I looked at the FAQ about the promo, and I didn’t see any comments about international transactions.
