Yesterday I blogged about the great sign up bonus of 50,000 miles after the first purchase that Chase is offering on the Continental OnePass Mastercard.

As I mentioned in the post, I signed up for the card just under three months ago when the sign up bonus was a mere 25,000 miles per person (plus 5,000 miles for adding an authorized user), thinking the offer wouldn’t get any better since OnePass and Mileage Plus would be merging soon enough

But then a few weeks after I started using my card there was a new sign up bonus that offered the same number of miles, plus a $50 statement credit. I emailed Chase through the secure message center on the website, and surely enough within a day they promised to credit the $50 statement credit to my account, which they did.

Without any real expectations, I decided to do the same yesterday. I just mentioned that I noticed the new sign up bonus and was wondering whether the difference in miles could be applied to my account. Sure enough, a few hours later I get a message promising the additional 25,000 miles to be applied to my next statement.

So in the end I did better than the current offer. I earned 55,000 miles plus a $50 statement credit.

Frankly, I think this is amazing customer service by Chase. They didn’t have to do this. At the end of the day, I have no right to be mad when they later offer a better sign up bonus. It’s like buying a plane ticket, only to realize a few months later that the fare might have gone down. As consumers we try to lock in prices or deals when we perceive them to be the best. I’m certainly not entitled to anything extra when Chase tries to entice new customers.

It just comes to show you, it never hurts to ask. The worst you’ll get is a polite “no,” and the best you’ll get is 25,000 bonus miles.

Thank you so much. I would not have thought to ask for the extra 25K., but I did. Just received notice that I will be getting the extra miles. I received my card in November.

Thanks lucky, after seeing your post I contacted message center and received 25k for my troubles. Doesn't get much easier than this and I was outside the 90 day window.

    @Ben,

How far outside the 90 days were you? I'm not sure of my actual account opening but my first use of the card was Sept 24 (my first statement ran from 9/15/10) and they gave me the extra miles.

I'm certainly not a big user of the card. In my case I use to US Airways card to get the 10K status miles and then the Starwood card.

Thanks for the info. I just got an email stating that they are crediting me with 25K. Once gain, thanks

Denied. They quoted a 90 day deadline for offer matching. After that, you're stuck with what you got. Maybe longer for a good customer, but non-revolving bonus chasers aren't exactly their idea of a good customer.

Thanks for the heads up anyway.

I see you have plenty of thankful responses already, but I might as well add my voice to the chorus. I got my 25,000 miles too! Thanks so much for this great tip!

My wife & I were approved for the One Pass Plus MC on 10/20/10. Sent in a secured message over the weekend (1/29/11), both got responses that an additional 25,000 enrollment miles will be reflected on the next statement.

I was told you have to ask for the miles within 90 days as well, so no additional bonus for me :(

I contacted Chase through the secure Email on their website and got my 25,000 miles the next day. What a great tip. Thanks!

Correction: I contacted Chase and not Continental.

I just applied in December. I contacted Continental by email and the response was to call the costomer service #. When I called they said that they would send a message to the the marketing dept. and they would get back to me by US mail within 7 days. Will wait and hope to get the extra miles!

Just got the reply from the secure message center. Seems that there is a 90-day rule to ask for more miles if you only got 25k. So I guess if you applied since November it is worth a shot.

Let's see how this works for me.

I opened my card in May and randomly decided to cancel it yesterday (d'oh!) This morning, after seeing this post, I called back and had the card reinstated.

I just wrote a secure message to Chase requesting they consider me for an extra 25K miles. Apparently, they'll get back to me within four hours.

For those of you who have been successful in getting the extra miles, would...

thanks for this info. the thread on Flyertalk has tremendous success with sending Chase a Secure Message. I did it as well, also got additional 25,000 miles... wonderful!

I've had my card for 8 months (signing bonus at the time was 30k). Still, I asked then for the other 20k all the same. As you say, it never hurts to ask, and it will be interesting to see just how far you can push it...

Thanks... I missed out on the $50 credit, but just sent in the secure message asking the question.....

You will miss out on Mileathon though.

Chase's online customer service center is usually pretty good, but their phone customer service for their credit cards is often horrendous. They attempt to market all sorts of services with fees: identity protector, fraud detector, payment protector, etc. I am glad you got the bonus.

They honored this for me too. AMAZING. My CO account will be sitting pretty when it comes merger time. It is actually quite funny, I applied for a 15,000 mile canadian AMEX and was denied (terrible offer really).

But I sign up for every chase / citi care in USA and I am approved.
