Good morning from Tokyo! While a full trip report will be coming in a bit, I couldn’t help but share a few pictures of Lufthansa’s Airbus 380 first class, after flying it from Frankfurt to Tokyo.

As evidenced by the pictures, this was one of the emptiest flights I’ve ever been on, especially in business class, where they ended up having a higher flight attendant to passenger ratio than in first class! Seven flight attendants for 14 passengers (out of 98 seats).

Yes, the picture above is business class in-flight…

@ Lelee — Because it’s super-low season, Lufthansa opened up some last minute first class award space between Frankfurt and Tokyo.

I wish to make use of the two-person ‘couch’ located in the lavatory.

Ahh, memories of my trip to SFO in LH First on the A380. I must admit the lavatory was incredible.

Why would they put the a380 on this route with such loads?

@ Jon — Apparently the flight is usually packed, though it’s just quiet this week because it’s right after Christmas. This is the first time any of the crew members saw the flight anywhere close to this empty.

Awesome! Looking forward to reading your trip report :)

Do you think that this is a one-time thing or that Lufthansa will now release O class on the A380 more often (until now they were always blocked as far as I know)…? Thanks!

Had the pleasure to enjoy the new LH F on A340-300 earlier this month. Looked very similar to the A380 F, just the lavatory being less spacious. :)

Wonder how much miles you had to burn for this flight. Miles and More members would have to burn 210K miles for round trip in F.

I’m not surprised that Lufthansa Business is empty. Those seats suck! I won’t fly LH Business until they come up with proper flat seats that to make things worse put you at a strange angle. What were they thinking?

I do agree with the C seats on LH not being very good but compared to UA they do seem to open more Award space between the US and Europe. Also after being stuck on an old C twice in a row playing the airplane 777 lottery on a paid C ticket I am highly annoyed with UA. To top if off both were day time flights where the lack of any decent entertainment system and in seat power (I broke my old converted and don’t replace it just for UA’s old plane sake) is really an issue.

Absolutely loved the A380 LH F experience JFK-FRA earlier this year. Full trip report @ http://milepoint.com/forums/threads/photo-tr-lh-a380-first-class-a346-old-first-class-jfk-fra-dus-fra-ewr.18852/ with plenty of pictures.

@German Expat Look for routings with the 767 for example via ZRH and you won’t be stuck with United old style seats. And at least United is retrofiting those seats. LH continues to install the lame ones on new aircraft.

In contrast the new LH F class looks good — have to admit. Just won’t pay money or miles for their C class seats.

    Kris Ziel said,

Once LH starts taking delivery of their 748s they will have a new C/F that will have true lie flat seats, and they said they won’t take their time in updating all of their planes. If I recall correctly they plan on having the new seats deployed on the entire fleet by the end of 2012.

It is very similar to the Cathay Pacific First Class as well. I suppose the fare is not the most affordable for everyone by flying F class on a long-haul flight. However, I would say if the fare could be reimbursed, then it’s a fair deal.
