As Gary notes, Aeroplan plan is offering a transfer bonus through September 9, 2012, for points transfers from their hotel partners, car rental partners, and points.com. The bonus structure is as follows:

40,000 Starpoints usually nets 50,000 Aeroplan miles, so through this promotion you’re looking at a total of 60,000 Aeroplan miles. If American Express Membership Rewards were included in this promo I’d say there are definitely some circumstances where this promo would be worthwhile, though given the value of Starpoints I definitely won’t be taking advantage of this myself.

You used to get a 5K bonus for 20K mile transfers. Besides, since Aeroplan pesos have been so de-valued (gutting of award chart, fuel scam charges on partner airlines) I doubt a lot of people will take advantage of this – much better FF programs out there to transfer into.

@Mike You still get 5K on 20K mile transfers, but that’s given to you by Starwood. The up to 10K is on top of that, given to you by Aeroplan. If you were to transfer out 40K SPG, Starwood would send over 50K Aeroplan miles, and then Aeroplan would add another 10K, so you’d end up with 60K.

Agreed, there are *much* better places to send your Starwood points. Like US Airways. Wait for one of their 50% transfer bonuses and you’ll get 75K for every 40K you send out (90K business to Asia, 110K to Australia via Asia). And they don’t charge fuel surcharges.

Or Singapore, so you can book Singapore First, or Business! Lots of choice :) Don’t waste it on Aeroplan.
