While the deals aren’t especially compelling, American has consistently been running sales on AAdvantage miles for the better part of a year now, and this month is no exception. Through January 31, 2013, they’re offering tiered bonuses on the purchase of AAdvantage miles, up to 15,000.
The bonus structure is as follows:
While you can purchase up to 60,000 AAdvantage miles per calendar year, you’d get the best cent per mile ratio through this promotion by purchasing 40,000 AAdvantage miles (and receiving 15,000 bonus AAdvantage miles) at a cost of $1,217.50.
That’s ~2.2 cents per AAdvantage mile, not a rate at which I’d outright buy miles, though it’s not a bad deal for topping off an account either.
