Air Arabia & South Park?

Apr 13th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

I keep forgetting to mention this:  Air Arabia, a lowfare carrier based outside of Dubai, has a cartoon mascot who looks suspiciously like Kyle from South Park, but in full Arab dress (note the non-necessarily-Arab goatee).  You can see him here.  Just thought you’d like to know…
(Welcome to everyone visiting from Jaunted.com…if it’s your first [...]

New Service from Baltimore to Ghana and The Gambia

Apr 12th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

I don’t talk much about new routes, but I think it’s great when airlines open up nonstop routes to parts of the world that usually don’t see new service.  Which is why I’m letting you know that North American Airlines is launching once-a-week nonstop service to Banjul, The Gambia, in West Africa, with continuing service [...]

Security Detains Passenger Because of Led Zeppelin

Apr 11th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

Thanks to Today in the Sky for this good one:
A passenger was detained at a small British airport because he asked his taxi driver to play Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song and London Calling by the Clash.  I wish it made more sense than that, but it doesn’t.  The passenger, who was on his way to [...]

The Titles of Emirates

Apr 6th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

There’s an amusing little piece in this week’s New Yorker that talks about the odd list of titles you can choose from when you sign up for a Skywards frequent flyer account with Emirates Airlines.  While most US airlines stick with the boring "Mister/Misses/Miss", Emirates offers the following options:
Admiral, Air Comm, Air Marshal, Al-Haj (denoting [...]

Delta’s Pilots Authorize Strike

Apr 5th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

The 6,000 pilots at Delta Air Lines authorized a strike yesterday by an overwhelming margin.  An arbitration panel is expected to issue a ruling on April 15 on whether the pilots’ contract can be voided–the pilots union said that despite the binding nature of the arbitration panel’s findings, they will strike if it rules against [...]

Mexican Officials Shut Down Aerocalifornia

Apr 5th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

Mexico’s Civil Aviation Department announced that they have shut down low cost carrier Aerocalifornia because its safety standards were not up to snuff.  Aerocalifornia, which flies to 22 cities in Mexico and Los Angeles, stranded about 2,000 passengers over the weekend.  The airline has 90 days to prove its safety standards or it faces losing [...]

Southwest Airlines Comes to Washington Dulles

Apr 5th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

Southwest Airlines announced that it plans service from Washington-Dulles airport beginning this fall.  I usually don’t bother with new city announcements, but Southwest has changed its strategy so significantly in the past couple of years that it warrants a mention.  Southwest used to actively avoid competing directly with other low cost carriers, preferring to stay [...]

$33 Business Class Ticket from Toronto to Larnaca, Cyprus

Apr 5th, 2006 | By Jared Blank

You may remember that Travelocity gave away a bunch of tickets from LA to Fiji after it mistakenly posted a $0 fare on its website.  Well, there was a similar glitch yesterday (thanks to Flyertalk for all of this):  Orbitz, Cheaptickets (and others) had a $33 round trip fare from Toronto to Larnaca, Cyprus, in [...]
