They don't really bother me. But also... 1. I always bring earplugs with me on flights. Sometimes I have my MP3 player with me. 2. I love hearing people moan and complain about the child crying. Why should everyone else on the plane have to suffer for one child's whims? Granted, children are children and will misbehave at times, but to delay an entire flight for one is completely ridiculous. As for DR's suggestion, I agree that tolerance is important, but bending over backwards (like delaying a flight!)is absurd. I hate the fact that people with children think they're better and can get away with anything just because they have a little one. Give me a break. I'm the parent of an autistic boy who has flown with me several times. I understand that as part of the big picture of flying, should he happen to have a meltdown when the plane leaves, we very well could be asked to leave. While I'm also able to keep him calm in those situations, if I couldn't I wouldn't argue with leaving and trying again... that's life... deal with it!... and these people should deal with the issue that they can't strap in their 3-yr old.
