Did a Passenger Cause a Ruckus Over a Sippy Cup

Jun 18th, 2007 | By Jared Blank

A story is making the rounds about a former secret service officer getting into a bit of a tiff with TSA staff at Washington National Airport.  The former officer was flying with her small child and was said to have gotten into a disagreement with security staff over whether she could bring her son’s sippy [...]

American Airlines South Florida Sale to Central America and Caribbean

Jun 15th, 2007 | By Jared Blank

Most so-called "sales" the airlines throw are complete nonsense.  This one is not:
American Airlines has $78 and $98 round trip flights every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday through mid-November from Ft. Lauderdale and Miami to a bunch of Caribbean islands, as well as Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.  Oh, and they’re throwing in triple miles [...]

JetBlue to Review Strategy

Jun 14th, 2007 | By Jared Blank

JetBlue is undertaking a rigorous strategic review of the airline, that could lead to the carrier selling additional aircraft and slowing down deliveries of airplanes they’ve ordered.  The impending launch of Virgin America is also lurking on the horizon, and JetBlue is wise to actually get their ship in order before this happens (which is [...]

Fare Basis Codes That Suck

Jun 13th, 2007 | By Jared Blank

Allow me to pass along a bit of complete geek airline humor.  See below, an un-retouched screengrab from a travel agency search for a Royal Jordanian flight.  Note the fare basis code (I told you it was airline geek humor).  Even so, funny that no one ever caught this. (click the image to view…)

Pilot: Don’t Worry about the Safety Problem

Jun 13th, 2007 | By Jared Blank

(Thanks to OTR reader Hiroko):
A pilot for Vueling, a Spanish lowfare carrier, told passengers that they should pay no attention to the empty seats on half the airplane because, "we have a safety problem" but it’s nothing to worry about.  29 rows of seats on one side of the plane were taped off causing, as [...]

Continental Flight Attendant Has 50 Years of Service

Jun 12th, 2007 | By Jared Blank

I know this is just a press release, but it’s pretty amazing nonetheless:  a Continental flight attendant named Norma Heape will have her 50th anniversary with the airline this week, on a flight from Newark to Hong Kong.  Pretty incredible when you consider all the upheaval in the industry (and that she’d still want to [...]

Two Airport Security Dogs Fired for Sexual Harassment

Jun 11th, 2007 | By Jared Blank

Two drug-sniffing dogs that worked in Thailand’s Chang Mai airport were fired for sexual harassment and urinating on passengers’ luggage.  I know, that sentence doesn’t make any sense.  But apparently it happened.  Passengers were complaining about the dogs’ behavior.  An airport spokesman said of Mok, one of the dogs, "Mok liked to pee on luggage [...]

Chicken or $5,000?

Jun 11th, 2007 | By Jared Blank

An Indian passenger was awarded nearly $6,000 for mental anguish after he was served chicken on a Malaysia Airlines flight.  The passenger, a vegetarian (obviously), "experienced depression, shock, stress and humiliation" and vomited after being served the chicken.  Isn’t this is roughly the same experience we all have after eating airline chicken? (have I been [...]
