Trip Report – Le Méridien Bangkok

by Adam

This is part four of a Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia trip report covering our stay at the Le Meridien Bangkok:

Le Meridien Bangkok

The Le Meridien Bangkok is a SPG category 3 hotel requiring 7,000 points for a free night or 2,800 points and $45, both excellent deals. The hotel appears extremely modern as you approach from the outside walking into the lobby.

I love staying at SPG hotels in Asia as there is never a battle for an upgrade and they are extremely generous with elite members.  The Le Meridien Bangkok was no exception, I was upgraded without asking to an Avantec Corner Suite and as a Platinum member I also received two drinks each evening at Bamboo Chic, their trendy bar/restaurant as well as complimentary breakfast at the Latest Recipe. There is no lounge.

My room was on the second to top floor and I was extremely pleased upon walking in.

You walk into a nicely sized living room with a small library, a desk, two sofas, and a window seat overlooking the city.  The windows are floor to ceiling throughout the suite and have automated controls to open and close the shades. The room comes equipped with two flat screens, a sound system, and two Cisco IP phones displaying your name and room number.  A fruit basket and card were placed for me on the desk along with a welcome message written out using a plate and some chocolate syrup.  My room overlooked one of the Buddhist temples below the hotel.

The bedroom and bathroom were the most impressive for me.  I love Le Meridien beds and this king size bed did not disappoint, sleeping in what feels like a cloud is never a bad thing.  The bathroom which is accessible via a sliding door from the bedroom had an oversize tub, two sinks, and a shower that could easily fit up to 10 people.  In fact, it would probably be more appropriate to refer to it as a shower room than a stall, there was a left side and right side which each contained their own rain shower heads and jets.  I’m all about being green but I couldn’t resist taking one shower with all the jets turned on.

There are at least 15 bottles of complimentary water throughout the suite that are replaced twice daily as you use them.  These came in handy for sightseeing and day trips.  After walking around the chaotic and sweltering streets of Bangkok during the day, the Le Meridien truly feels like an oasis.  From the moment you walk through the black doors, you’re greeted by the “Le Meridien scent” and the Henri Scars Struck soundtrack, a soundscape experience that changes based on time of day and location.  Everything from crickets to dripping water can be heard as you ride the elevators.  The staff were also part of the calming experience for me.  I had an especially long stay but it really impressed me that by my second day the majority of the front desk, concierge, and doormen staff greeted me by name.  The staff at Bamboo Chic were also great and our nightly drinks service was excellent.  We were allowed to choose two drinks from the regular bar menu and were always given a complimentary appetizer as well – tuna rolls, vegetable dumplings, chicken satays, etc.  One night they even offered to bring our drinks to the pool for us so that we could enjoy them while swimming.

Like most Asian luxury hotels, breakfast at Latest Recipe was unreal with a cook to order station, smoothie bar, typical American breakfast options (bacon, eggs, sausages, etc.), fruit bar, salad bar, omelet station, bread bar, cereal station, curry station, soup station, cooked meats (chicken and even filet one morning), fish area, dim sum, and a sorbet dessert station. You could essentially eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert at one time.

Overall, I loved the suite, the breakfast, the drinks, the service, and the pool.  The location is directly across the street from the Patpong “night market” and is walkable to public transport.  They treat their SPG  elite members extremely well and at $45 and 2,800 points, the cash & points redemption option offers a great value.

I stayed here for 2 nights last year and really enjoyed it. I’m not an SPG anything, just a regular guy traveling around Asia, and I definitely felt welcomed immediately. Can’t beat the value for the price.

Le Meridien Bankok is absolutely one of the best SPG hotel in the system. When the front desk clerk found out that I could not take advantage of the breakfast buffet due to my early morning flight, they arranged to have a breakfast box to go, either delivered to the room or have it available at check out.

I’m an SPG Gold and I stayed here in February and again in May. We had 3 rooms in February and 2 in May. On both trips, we had their meeting department set up a conference room that we could use for taking a deposition.

I agree with all of your comments. The hotel was fantastic, the facilities impeccable, and the staff made us feel like family. The warm welcome we received upon our return in May was heartfelt and sincere.

There aren’t enough good things that you can say about Le Meridien Bangkok. I hope that I can return again soon. It is worth sitting on a CX flight for 20 hours to get there!

Like everyone else, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Le Meridian Bangkok. My friend and I stayed there last year for 4 nights and loved it. Their breakfast was probably one of the most amazing that I have ever seen. Can’t recommend it enough.
