Another big thanks to reader BigMiker15 who was able to pick up the last 5 AA 10% coupons at his local D’Agostino supermarket in Manhattan. The coupons are good for 10% off any flight booked through May 15, 2013 for travel through May 19, 2013. The offer is valid for any destination worldwide and is good for one-way or round-trip travel. The coupons are awarded at checkout counters at D’Agostino supermarkets in exchange for making a donation to Citymeals.

I’ll email the promo codes to the first 5 readers to email me Say What? Overheard on the Plane entry. Please also respond in the comments section with “email sent”. Requests without an entry will not be considered. What is Say What? Overheard on the Plane?  It’s a weekly blog entry with ridiculous things that Point Me to the Plane readers have overheard on their flights. The weekly feature will be returning in June. Good Luck!

Have a college student at home or perhaps your taking some continuing education classes? United is offering $20 off one-way or $40 off round-trip for any flights departing the US and arriving in Europe this summer. Flights must be booked on StudentUniverse.com by 5/31/13.

In order to prove your eligibility you must provide two of the following:

Several co-workers have been able to register using their single continuing education class that’s being given at a local college. Teachers and professors are also eligible for sign-up. I’m not sure what fare class the tickets book into, though I’m sure it’s one of the lowest economy buckets.

PROMO CODE TERMS:
UAEUOW: The promotion code entitles you to a $20 discount on the purchase of one(1) one-way airline ticket at StudentUniverse.com. Valid only for flights on United Airlines departing from the United States and arriving in Europe. Offer not valid on hotels, activities, rail passes, insurance, car rentals or previously booked flights. Promotion Code is limited to a one-time use only per person. Only verified members are eligible to purchase. Coupons/Discounts cannot be combined with any other offer. Discount will not be applied to taxes and fees. Promotion code redemptions are limited and expire 5/31/13.

UAEURT: The promotion code entitles you to a $40 discount on the purchase of one(1) round-trip airline ticket at StudentUniverse.com.

Using an award to get to India but need to pick up some reasonable flights within the subcontinent? Jet Airways is running a 20th anniversary sale and providing 20% off all economy and premiere tickets today and tomorrow when booked via their website. I was able to get some great fares from BOM-GOI and DEL-BOM, but make sure you check pricing against the low cost carriers – Go Airlines, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and AirAsia India. Anniversary fares are eligible for mileage accumulation with Jet’s mileage partners.

Could it just be a typo? On the page for Air China’s latest Phoenix Miles promotion, they state the following:

Passengers flying in Q Class or above from Beijing to Dusseldorf, Paris, Frankfurt, New York, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Singapore, Hong Kong or Seoul on Air China qualify for 30% mileage bonus. Valid from May 1 to June 30, 2013. This arrangement will make you earn Air China mileage faster, and the mileage can be used to request award domestic travel on Air China and goods at Air China’s e-shop. Also, during the same period, PhoenixMiles members who use their accrued mileage to request award travel in Economy Class, Business Class and First Class on Air China from Beijing to Frankfurt, New York, Los Angeles, Vancouver and Singapore qualify for 85% discount in the mileage to be paid. Register on Air China’s PhoenixMiles website to benefit.

Now, could it possibly be a poor translation and they actually intended to say that you only have to pay 85% of the normal award amount (a 15% discount)? Who knows, but if we take them at their word, an 85% discount would require just 9,000 Phoenix Miles for economy, 15,000 Phoenix Miles for business, and only 21,750 Phoenix Miles for first. I haven’t yet had a chance today to experiment (hopefully during a late lunch), but please do report your results in the comments section!

Note that Air China is an SPG 1:1 transfer partner.

UPDATE - As expected, the offer was of course too good to be true. Turns out that this is a common way of advertising a (15%) discount.

Frontier is offering $25 off the purchase of any domestic flight in the Classic Plus fare class purchased by 11:59 EST this Thursday. Travel must occur April 22 – May 22, 2013. Travel to Alaska and outside the US is unfortunately excluded from the deal.

Hotels.com seems to email a different coupon almost every day, this week I’ve received three different ones.

First there was the April Showers coupon for 30% off select hotels with coupon code APRSHOWERS:

Then there was a 10% off any booking made between March 18 – April 21 for travel March 18th through June 23rd. If you’re subscribed to the hotels.com newsletter you should have received a unique code (check your spam box).

Then there was a 5% off any booking made between March 18 – April 21 for travel March 18th through June 23rd. If you’re subscribed to the hotels.com newsletter you should have received a unique code (check your spam box).

If you’re not subscribed to emails from hotels.com, you can enter your details here to receive future coupons.

There’s just one catch with the 5% and 10% coupons…almost every single major chain is excluded. From Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, Radisson, and Starwood properties to Comfort Inn and Econo Lodge. Essentially, unless you are planning to stay at a non-chain hotel, the coupon is pretty much worthless. However, every now and then I do stay at some non points eligible properties, here are a few of my most recent favorite non-chain stays that I booked on Hotels.com and earned Welcome Rewards:

Hotel Cubo - Ljubljana, Slovenia – Full Trip Report

All the bad press lately has led to some amazing cruising deals, some as low as $38 a night. Granted, you’ll need to be willing to take your chances on a Carnival ship…but remember “actually getting there is 86.7% of the fun”…  Caribbean cruises seem to be priced the cheapest but you can even cruise Alaska for as low as $58 a night. All deals available at Carnival’s website.

Alitalia is offering a coupon valid towards a $100-$250 discount off the purchase of a transatlantic ticket upon registering for their newsletter. The coupon is valid for travel between January 1 and December 31, 2013 on Alitalia operated flights. The amount of the discount varies depending on the class you book per the amounts below:

  • $100 off in Economy Class – all itineraries
  • $150 off in Premium Economy Class – nonstop itineraries to Milan or Rome.
  • $250 off in Business class – nonstop itineraries to Milan or Rome.

Be sure to check the full T&Cs here as the discount will be applied to the lowest class booked. Therefore, to take advantage of the $250 off in Business class, all segments of the itinerary must be booked in Business. Should a Business class or Classica Plus itinerary include domestic economy class segments within Italy or beyond, the lowest Economy class discount will apply. For example: the discount applied to an itinerary between New York and Naples booked in Business Class or Classica Plus from JFK to Rome with a domestic segment to Naples, will automatically be the $100 Economy class discount as a portion of the itinerary is booked in economy class.

Check out my Alitalia business class trip report here – Alitalia A330 Trip Report JFK-Rome (FCO) – Very Impressed – Lie-Flat & Excellent Food in Magnifica Business Class.

The latest Priority Club PointBreaks list is out with 5,000 point room offers good through June 30, 2013.

PointBreaks
Once a quarter, Priority Club releases their list of PointBreaks which allow members to redeem their points for stays at select properties for only 5,000 per night, a huge savings and easily one of the best features of the Priority Club program.  The participating properties are updated each quarter and can present some amazing values, especially at the higher end properties and those in exotic locations.  Each participating property only allots a certain amount of PointBreaks rooms and once they have been redeemed they are removed from the list. What’s the catch?  Popular properties disappear really fast, so you need to be ready to book as soon as the list comes out.

This Quarter’s List (through June 30th)
This quarter’s list isn’t quite as exciting as some previous lists which included properties in Fiji, Mauritius, Phuket, Israel, Marrakech, Cyprus, Goa, Auckland, Johannesburg, and Sao Paulo, though there are a few bright spots. You can see the full list here, including properties in North America as well.

How Do I Obtain Additional Priority Club Points?
If you’re not a Priority Club point collector you can still take advantage of these offers. Points can be transferred from Chase Ultimate Rewards on a 1:1 basis . Chase Ink Plus, Chase Ink Bold, and Chase Sapphire Preferred will all earn you Ultimate Rewards points.  Also, don’t forget about the Points & Cash trick to receive discounted Priority Club Points.

Every company I’ve ever worked for seems to have an exclusive contract with Avis…which is perhaps why I’m very late to this amazing Enterprise weekend deal. Thanks to Slickdeals reposting the offer, I was able to rent a car this weekend for $9.99 plus tax.  The rate is available Friday-Monday at select locations. Airports and major cities (NYC, LA, SFO, etc.) are excluded but smaller neighborhood stations just outside the excluded cities work. For example, the code was accepted this weekend at locations in Brooklyn, Queens, New Jersey, and Long Island.

The deal is valid any Friday-Monday until May 22, 2013 but ONLY allows for 100 miles per day. Any additional miles are charged at .20 per mile. The offer is valid on Economy through Full Size cars at rates from $9.99 per day up to $19.99 per day.  See here for full details.

Valid at participating neighborhood locations within the U.S. and Puerto Rico only for rentals reserved in advance. Rental must begin on or after September 6, 2012, and end on or before May 22, 2013. Offer rate of $9.99 per day applies to an Economy or Compact car rented on Friday and ending the following Monday, and includes 100 miles per day. For certain locations, rates of less than $9.99 per day may be available. Sorry, this offer is not valid at airport locations and availability is limited. Rates are as posted at time of reservation at enterprise.com. Offer cannot be combined with other coupons, offers or discounted rates. Standard rental qualifications apply. Offer rate does not include 23% or lower tax and/or additional surcharges, $0.20 or less per mile for excess miles, vehicle licensing fees of $4 or less per day, refueling fees, additional driver fees and optional damage waiver of $29.99 or less per day, which are the responsibility of the renter.
