As a relic of my previous non-point earning ways, I still have an American Express Blue card in my possession that I signed up for (gasp) no bonus.  I pay a 40 dollar fee on this card each year but I keep it around as my only current non-corporate Amex card.  Amex has great marketing because each time I am about to call to cancel the card, they offer a good value that keeps me hanging on.  Last year my Amex Blue card let me take advantage of the Facebook Link,Like, Love promotion which was quite lucrative and this year they saved me a few clicks and just sent me a free dinner.

One Free Dinner

Amex mailed out a 50 dollar credit for Fleming’s restaurants.  Generally I toss these in the garbage as they have spend limits and loads of restrictions.  On closer inspection, this one is actually pretty good.  It is good for any dine in the dining room and Alcohol is included!  I took a look at the prices of a local Flemings and I will easily be able to eat a nice meal for myself or eat ‘tapas style’ appetizers and sides for 2 people and keep the bill under 50 dollars.  In either case, I have no shame in collecting a free dinner.

Thanks for picking up the check, Amex!  I will keep the card another year.

@heidi – Clearly I don’t pay enough attention to this card. It used to have a fee to participate in MR but I didn’t realize they took that fee off. You just saved me some more money! Thanks for the heads up!
