Mrs Weekly Flyer surprises me every day. This time she surprised me with a way to earn 5% cash back or UR points on purchases. In this post I’ll share the process to transfer Chase Freedom Ultimate Rewards points to a Chase Sapphire or Ink Bold Ultimate Rewards account.
If you have a Chase Freedom card, then you must know there is an option to earn 5% cash back on select purchases up to $1,500 per quarter. These points can then be transferred to a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Ink Bold account where you can transfer to a number of Ultimate Reward travel partners. I recently discovered the process to transfer these to a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Ink Bold Ultimate Rewards account.
This weekend, Mrs Weekly Flyer made my day when she paid for a take out order at our favorite restaurant. But she really made my day when she paid for it with a credit card I had no idea she had. It turns out that she had an old Chase cash back card that was eventually converted to the Chase Freedom card. She wasn’t aware of the transfer option, so never mentioned the card to me.
I couldn’t wait to find out just how many points she had earned that I could transfer to my Ultimate Rewards account.

Step 1: Check Freedom Card Promotion Status
The first thing you want to do is to review the calendar of promotions. There are different promotion bonuses for each quarter. The ones below are now expired as they were applicable to 2012.

Then you’ll want to enroll in the 5% cash back promotion.

Then validate you are enrolled.

While you are at it, make sure you sign up for promotion reminders.

Step 2: Check Freedom Card Point Balance
Next you will want to validate how many points you have available to transfer. So this shows I have 6,195 Chase Freedom points to transfer from Mrs Weekly Flyer to my Chase Sapphire Preferred Ultimate Rewards account. We could have also selected to receive $61.95 in cash back but that just doesn’t make sense.
Since I can transfer at a 1:1 ratio to British Airways Avios points, and redeem as little as 4,500 Avios points for a domestic coach one-way ticket, I chose to transfer the points rather than use the cash back option.

Step 3: Transfer Points From Freedom To Chase Sapphire Or Ink Bold
Log on to your Chase account and select Redeem for Rewards to begin the transfer process.
Log Into Chase Ultimate Rewards
Log into Ultimate Rewards and select the option to combine balances. Then enter the account number where you wish to transfer the points.

Verify your transfer amounts.

Then view the transfer confirmation.

You can then go back to your Freedom card reward balance and see the balance has been transferred out.

Step 4: Validate Points Were Transferred
The last step is to log in to the account where the points were transferred. The points should show up immediately. Navigate to manage accounts and verify the transfer was completed correctly. And just like that I’m 6,195 Ultimate Rewards closer to my next reward flight or reward hotel night.

Bottom Line
The Chase Sapphire Preferred Preferred offers a 40,000 sign up bonus and the Ink Bold offers a nice 50,000 sign up bonus. But the Chase Freedom offers a fantastic way to earn 5% cash back on select spending categories. Used together, you can earn points at 5% per dollar on select categories, and then transfer to your favorite Ultimate Rewards travel partner.

Excellent post!! I just transferred my daughter Chase Freedom points to my Sapphire account seamlessly. The only different is, the route to your second screen shot “Combine Ultimate Rewards points”. In her Chase Freedom account, I could not find the “Redeem for Rewards” menu. I came from “Manage Ultimate Rewards” menu and select the last menu/option

Have been using the Chase Freedom card for years. Now I would like to take advantage of tranfering my rewards so I can redeem them for miles or hotel stays.
To do this, do I need a Saphire or Bold card that has an annual fee or is one of them “free”?

Website was not displaying all my Chase cards so I called Chase and they did all the points transfers to my Chase Sapphire preferred seamlessly! I logged back into my Chase account and the points transfer was immediate. Thanks for the post – it helped me to know what to ask for.
