Update: 100,000 offer is expired.

American Express continues to send me multiple 100,000 Membership Reward point bonus offers. In early December, one of my businesses received a targeted offer for 100,000 Membership Rewards points after applying and meeting the spending limits for the Business Platinum card from American Express.

Today, I hit the jackpot, or so I thought, when two more businesses received targeted 100,000 Membership Rewards point bonus offers. This meant I received 3 credit card offers from American Express totaling 300,000 Membership Rewards points.

Terms And Conditions

But I quickly realized the bad news. The terms and conditions prohibit an “applicant” from receiving the bonus if they’ve received another business product bonus within the last 12 months.

Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have had this product or any other business gold or green card account within the last 12 months.

I wonder if “applicant” means a person or business applying for the offer. Does anyone have any experience with multiple business offers?

Other Huge, 100,000 – 50,000, Welcome Bonus Offers

This 100,000 offer from American Express is a huge welcome bonus offer which I cannot take advantage of because I received 75,000 Membership Rewards points through a targeted offer earlier this year.

So instead, I’m looking at the following big bonus point welcome offers and will likely pick one up before the end of the year.

Bottom Line

Keep an eye out for your 100,000 Membership Rewards offer from American Express. They are sending a lot of these targeted offers this holiday season. If you don’t receive one, consider one of the other large welcome bonus offers while they are around.

Does anyone know what “applicant” means when referring to the Business cards from American Express? Does it mean the actual person, or the business that receives and applies for the offer?

Comments

  1. I could use one – if you want to fish it my way. They are offering me only 25,000 to upgrade my gold to a platinum 🙂 But, I’m interested if the pot is sweetened to 100k.

  2. I was getting one every couple of months also, but haven’t in the last little while. Already signed up for one anyway! The terms were different at the time I got mine, though. At that point, the terms stated you could not have the SAME product in the last 12 months. I had the Business Gold product beforehand which is how they even knew I existed.

  3. Earlier this year I received a 50K signup bonus for the AMEX Gold and a 100K signup bonus for the AMEX Platinum 1 month apart. However, this month I was told I could not receive the 10K MQM bonus for the Reserve card because I had the Delta Business Platinum earlier.

  4. What is it that highlights you in their system to prompt the targeted offers? I’ve had a SPG card with Amex for a few years now and spend a fair amount on it. Never gotten a targeted offer, though.

  5. Hi Joshua – This appears to be true, but the terms state the person applying AND business will be held jointly liable for charges. So would have to be someone close to “home”

  6. @ The Weekly Flyer: I suspect that you would be assuming no responsibility for charges if Josh (or I) applied with our own name and business using your RSVP code.

  7. Hi Ethan – I suspect that as well, but I believe the RSVP code is tied to a specific business name. So all someone (not you or Mr Pickles of course) would have to do is to call the number and inquire about the company RSVP code to use it tied to a specific company.

  8. We used a 75k one that came to our address for our HOA (odd). It worked fine for my wife even though we registered her business not the HOA. We have been trying to find a 75-100k one for me though. Would be very much appreciated if you want to send one this way!

  9. Don’t you think the PRG card at $175 per year.. waived the first year, is a better deal than the Plat card with the big fat fee?

I have a targeted offer for the Plat/100K… but I think I’ll hold out for the 75K PRG card. Do you value that extra 25K points enough to pay the fee?

Also, would the T &C’s also mean if you got a personal card, or just a business card in the same name as the offer?

  10. I also received multiple 100K Amex Platinum offers sent to multiple business to the same address. Looks like they are targeting people with multiple businesses.

  11. Agreed – I used someone else’s offer 18 months ago applying for the gold… and since I did ask first (nudge nudge)

  12. I just cancelled by personal Delta Gold AmEx card a couple months ago, and for the same card last night received an email offering me 45k bonus with $5k spend in 3 months.

I read the T&C and wondered the same thing, as it hadn’t been more than a year. Do they just want me to get card back and not give me sign up bonus miles – if so, do they think I’m nuts!?!

  13. These offers are what I call semi-targeted. I also received several. Some interesting points.

    1. They do not have to be used by the business to whom
they are addressed. I used a different business it was approved in 15 seconds online.

    2. I gave the second one to my son, same results.

    3. Each one has a unique reservation number on it, and can only be used once.
