Flying First Class with Lufthansa on the A380 seems like a good idea at the time when you are being wined and dined like royalty laying on a bed in the sky……but just wait until you touch down and board a future flight. You start asking yourself questions like…..

Why don’t I see this pre-flight?

IMG_3961

Why don’t my seats look like this classy?

IMG_3959

Why isn’t the cabin this spacious? Why is my flight so noisy in the cabin and why does the air feel different?

IMG_2555

Why don’t I have a private locker dedicated to my seat?

IMG_2534

Why aren’t they feeding me GOLD on this flight?

IMG_2569

Why don’t I have two massive bathrooms dedicated to the 8 seat cabin?

IMG_3977

Sure. On another premium award, you may find someone to drive you to your plane in a Mercedes.

IMG_2529

…or find your way into a terminal dedicated to First Class…

IMG_2514

..but when you are standing face to face with your airplane’s engines on idle, you’ll still want to know why your plane is so tiny?

IMG_2533

The bottom line

We just touched down in Tokyo after 11 hours on the A380 in First Class and I can confidently say that was the worst flight that has ever happened to me.

The next time you are searching for a premium award redemption, steer clear of Lufthansa First Class on the A380 unless you are content with all your future flights letting you down.

She ruined me and I am letting you know so you don’t make the same mistake. You’ve been warned!

hey could you elaborate on what went wrong? i was thinking of booking the very flight actually.

  • LufthansaFlyer said,

Glad you had such a great time.

  • LufthansaFlyer said,

@fridae. He put on a heavy dose of sarcasm. He’s ruined for future travel because LH took care of him so well :)

  • asianfridae said,

ah yes of course, always important to read the last part (which i didn’t)! :-P Glad you had a rockin’ time

  • Joel said,

What, just so that you have less competition for snagging an F seat on another LH A380 flight? ;)

  • ralf said,

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a similar experience on my FRA-NRT LH F flight. Yes, the hard product is great. The food was however awful. The service was below average. The LH limousine didn’t take me to the FCT, and even dumped me at another terminal than the one I had to be at. Cheap looking amenity bag and cheap pyjama trousers. I was not impressed.

Haha, I am literally about to fly from ORD-IAD-FRA-TOK-BKK-BOM in a few hours and fly on the A380 and 747-8. My expectations have been severely lowered after reading this report. Thanks for the heads up!

  • Raffles said,

Ha ha! I said EXACTLY the same thing after I did an Emirates A380 flight in their First Class Suites almost 4 years ago. And it was true, sadly. Everything since has been a let down.

  • LufthansaFlyer said,

@ralf limo service never takes pax TO fct. It’s normal because of immigration issues. Perfectly normal to be driven to other terminals

This is like saying that once you eat at a three-star Michelin restaurant you you can’t ever eat a hot dog.

    But nice #humblebrag.

  • ray patel said,

@frequent flyer university- I have flown 747-8 from FRA-BOM before and will be flying again on 14th. Its one of the best I have seen.

  • Harrison said,

I’ve recently flown HKG-MUC and FRA-JFK, both on A346 with old F seats. The ancient seat leaves much to be desired, but I agree that F is still far above the best J I’ve had.

I actually gave up a confirmed new F seat on FRA-ORD just so I could get home quicker with the nonstop to JFK. How foolish of me =(

  • Ozaer N. said,

hehe great post….btw..was this an award ticket?

  • stimpy said,

Actually I feel the same about flying LH after flying EK and wondering why this awful LH A380 doesn’t have a shower on board? :)

  • MilesMaven said,

Great post! Think I’ll steer clear so as to avoid future disappointment on ALL future flights ;)

  • Jimgotkp said,

    I didn’t have a great experience on LH F either from NRT-FRA.

  • Adam said,

    Great Post!! Hilarious!!

  • Andrew L said,

I flew in F recently on LH’s terrible new product on the 747-400. Ever since, I feel the need to book two seats in Y so I can have one for sitting and one for sleeping. ;)

  • Matthias said,

    @Andrew: LOL

Anyone having any experience on the ANA 777-300ER First Class porduct which is offered on FRA-NRT?

  • TravelBloggerBuzz said,

Love, love the sarcasm in this post! Oh the pics too. I think I am going to get ruined too in the near future!

  • Bikeguy said,

Just got off Virgin Australia Business and onto a Delta 767 ghetto plane with torn seats and AVOD that needed rebooted several times in F yesterday. Worst Delta plane I’ve ever been on. Would have preferred Delta Y on a non “ridden hard and put away wet” plane.

I can only imagine how much worse it would have been if I had flown intl F.

  • Marshall Jackson said,

Love it. They spoiled me, and I was flying an “old” A330. :)

  • alex said,

@Frequent Flyer University – Impressive routing. I found A380 >> 747-8i because of the noise and pressure difference. Pictures can’t tell that story but it’s a game changer for me.

@Ozaer N. – Yes, United miles to Japan the long way.

Obviously you all haven’t taken Singapore Airlines A380′s First Class Suites yet…..
