Baby Weekly Flyer’s first long flight was a success. I learned a ton and our fear of taking Baby Weekly Flyer on longer flights has been removed. But we learned a lot from the experience.
No matter how much planning we did for Baby Weekly Flyer’s first trip, we learned you have to be prepared for the unexpected.
We’ll share a full trip report and details of all our learnings upon return, but here are the general highlights.
We arrived to the airport with plenty of time, 3 hours to be exact. the first stop after security was the SkyClub in Terminal T. We learned the oatmeal spoons are great for delivering baby food. So if you polish off an oatmeal, take the spoon with you instead of throwing it away. A baby in a SkyClub is one way to get special treatment. Almost every friendly Delta SkyClub employee said hi, kinda felt like we were famous with Baby Weekly Flyer.
About 45 minutes before departure we headed to the gate so Baby Weekly Flyer could get a glimpse of the airplane. The views kept baby occupied until departure.
We boarded when pre-boarding was called and were thankful for the extra time to secure Baby Weekly Flyer in the car seat in Economy Comfort.
Baby seats are required to be in the window, so Baby Weekly Flyer had great views for our flight all the way south.
De-planning via a stand is more difficult with a baby. We took baby out of the car seat and put baby back in once at the bottom of the stairs. A 757 is big compared to a baby in a car seat.
Bottom Line
Plan ahead and plan for the unexpected if you fly with a baby on flights over 3 hours.

Traveling with a child is a gentle seduction. It starts out easy, babies even generally sleep for long portions of flights. The only initial complication is the extra luggage. Then, children get more interactive and it’s a pretty steep downhill trip from there.
Our first was and is a great traveler. Our second is a mess on planes. But, we still love showing them the world. Glad to hear the first flight was a success!
