I was playing around with an award booking and came across the ability to book a domestic segment in a lie-flat Business Class seat onboard one of Delta’s newly configured 767 airplanes. In the past, I mapped out the routes with dedicated lie-flat service.

Taking a look at those routes, will give you an idea which airports the planes with lie-flat service fly in and out of. If these planes are not being utilized on international flights, Delta operates them on domestic routes to keep them busy or operates them to reposition for an international route from a different city. As a result, we’ve flown and reviewed the lie-flat Business Class domestically in the 777, 757, 767 (old style seats), and A330, but not yet the 747 (Big Sexy).

Hopefully one of you will be able to fly this 767 in lie-flat style on a domestic route.

Domestic Route Atlanta To Detroit

The flight leaves Atlanta at 12:35 PM and arrives in Detroit at 2:35 PM. This is a great flight time because it gives you an option to catch a number of flights to the west coast or to Europe. Plus the flight has lie-flat Business Class seats. You can see my full report of this plane in my flight from Atlanta to Brussels in Business Class. Delta 767 lie-flat DFW Route 2013

The flight offers completely lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 configuration.

Bottom Line

These big planes on domestic routes offer the best chance for an upgrade on a domestic flight. Knowing which routes these planes fly will greatly increase your chances of an upgrade and ability to ride in style.

This is great. Any idea where the plane goes from DTW? And, how does it get back to Atlanta?

Have you thought about setting up a thread on FlyerTalk for collecting data about Delta’s internationally configured domestic routes?

Makes sense that they are flying this on a hub-to-hub route.

  • FrequentMiler said,

It looks like the 10am to 12:05 weekday flights DTW to ATL are also lie flat.
