Ever wonder why there has been a “Breaking News” banner at the top of Hyatt’s website since December 15th, 2012? We have and it isn’t great news for Hyatt or visitors to one of the Caribbean properties.

Hyatt Curacao Breaking News

I was making a few reservations for 2013 today on Hyatt’s website and curiosity got the better of me with the “Breaking News” banner. After a quick google and BoardingArea search, it appears Hyatt has lost control of the property from the owners, Santa Barbara Hospitality.

The owner took over the property late on Friday night December 15th. The owner reportedly told the manager on duty they were taking control. The official Hyatt press release has been out for several weeks and you can read about it here.

Hyatt Curacao Dec 15 News

The management contract required the dispute to go to arbitration, but the owner took immediate action instead. Hyatt is now working through the legal process to resolve the matter. But at this time, Hyatt cannot take reservations for this hotel.

Bottom Line

If you were planning a stay at the Hyatt Curacao, you will need to give Hyatt a call to work see what type of arrangement you can make.

In my experience, when the El Tamarindo Starwood Luxury Collection Hotel left the Starwood Preferred Guest program, SPG did everything they could to accommodate us from our cancelled award stay. They even went as far as to reimburse for our air fare and pay for an alternative non-chain hotel. So it worked out in the end.

If you have a reservation with the Hyatt Curacao, make sure you call the number above to resolve the matter with Hyatt.
