I must have missed that the Hyatt Regency Tampa was being considered for sale by the AREA Property Partners. It turns out Diftwood has purchased the property and will convert it to another chain.

This was the Hyatt hotel in downtown and will be missed for it’s location. I stayed here a few years ago during a move which prevented homelessness for a few days. The property was older, had some renovations, but wasn’t my favorite because they frequently had dog shows at this hotel. The fact they let pets stay here means pet dander, which I don’t care for in a hotel.

Regardless, Hilton has taken over the “Hotel Tampa” property. TripAdvisor now has the property listed as “Hotel Tampa” in case you were wondering what the property looked like from first hand reviews. Next time I’m in Tampa I’ll likely stay at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay or the newer Westin Tampa Bay by the airport.

Net net, this won’t effect my stays with Hyatt when visiting Tampa. Although for Hyatt it might be a concern because they don’t have downtown Tampa property now.
