I was amazed when I flew Singapore Airlines Business Class for the first time last year. Not only was the seat the best I’ve ever flown, but the service was some of the best I’ve ever experienced.

I’ve only flown Singapore on a paid ticket but have always kept an eye out for opportunities to use United miles to fly on a Singapore Airlines award ticket. It’s been difficult to secure Singapore Business Class seats in the past using United miles. As a result, it came as a surprise when I was able to find Business Class availability to the Maldives for two months straight in the fall.

Business Class Availability

The Business class award availability appears to be wide open next fall from Singapore to Male, Maldives.

Singapore Business Availability to Maldives

From an award search for 3 people, there are many dates where Business Class to the Maldives from Singapore can be booked using United miles. Most of the availability is on the later flight leaving Singapore at 8:45 PM and arriving into Male, Maldives at 10:10 PM. The availability looks good on the return as well.

UPDATE: It looks like the early flight is available on certain days.

Singapore to Maldives Early Flight

Bottom Line

This is a great option to get to the Maldives using United miles. If your not a United flyer, you can fly with SkyTeam on the new Korean Airlines flight that opens up in the spring of 2013.

Of course you can pick up miles in the United or Korean Air programs through some generous Chase offers like the Chase Ink Plus Business Card offers 50,000 bonus points after $5,000 spend within 3 months, the Chase Ink Bold Business Card offers 50,000 bonus points after $5,000 spend within 3 months, or the Chase Sapphire Preferred® which offers 40,000 bonus points after you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months.

Has anyone been able to book more than one Business Class ticket on this route with Singapore Airlines in the past?

another great value is Haneda-(SIN)-Sydney for only 40k UA miles.SQ won’t give out seats from NRT since its either a 77w or a380 but HND has plenty biz availability…

Great catch PMM. I managed to book this using US Airways miles in 2010, getting two seats. And again this year but only when SQ dropped their pants that weekend.

Hi OMP – Thanks, that does look like a good deal.

    Hi MilesAbound – Thank you

I used DL points for this route (in 2000).

What would you do in Male if you got there at 10:30pm. I think there is only one hotel there that is very expensive.

  • P T said,

Anyone know how long this flight is?

  • Seth said,

The late night flight requires those tourists who need to take an air taxi to their resort to stay in Male for the night. I’d stay away from this flight and see if the earlier flight opens up.

  • The Weekly Flyer said,

Hi Tom – Those were the days when you could use DL miles for Singapore flights.

Hi John – Find a hotel and bunker down.

    PT – 4 hours and 25 minutes

Hi Seth – Thanks and agree to stay away from this flight if there are other options. But if not, it gets you to the Maldives in Singapore Business Class.

According to United it’s about 4h 30m both ways

  • harry said,

the reason it is available is because it is on the A330 – the regional business class product – NOT the nternational business seat which is available on the A380 and 777-300ER

  • William Tang said,

Unfortunately not the case for Aeroplan :(

Just checked and it’s 50,000 miles for economy. 85,000 for business class

    SIN -> MLE.

  • harry said,

Aeroplan have a different award chart than United

  • Brian said,

So what would be the total damage for 2 rt flights to Male from the US in business (using ultimate rewards points)? I’m trying to plan a honeymoon…

  • The Weekly Flyer said,

Hi Brian – For Business Class on United it is 120,000 miles per person. There are plenty of options depending on what time of year you are looking at. Drop me an email if you have specific questions.

We’re headed there next month on Singapore with United miles booked during the big July weekend where most Singapore premium seats were available. 120K each. Like an idiot, I didn’t book first, since it wasn’t available on half of our segments. SFO-HKG-SFO changed to an A-380. Kicking myself over and over !!! Oh well, business is better than nothing … and congrats to everyone enjoying the suites that had the foresight to book first.
