Air Tahiti Nui has announced it will update their Business Class in their A340-300s. They operate 5 A340’s from Tahiti to Los Angeles, Auckland, New Zealand, Tokyo, Japan, and Paris. All plane interiors and seats will be completely replaced with lighter weight seats that are expected to reduce weight by 3,700 kilos thereby saving on fuel.

As a result of upgrading their Business Class, they are phasing out their Poerava First Class. The key part of the new Business Class will be the updated in-flight entertainment systems which will have on-demand movies. The downside is these seats will still be lie-flat at an angle based on “popular” demand.

Based on the popular Sogerma “angled lie flat cocoon seat”, the new Business Class will provide more personal room and space, with a 60 inch seat pitch, while continuing to provide a two by two by two configuration, offering passengers a choice of only window and aisle seating.

I’ve flown Air France’s angled lie-flat seats on this route using 150,000 Delta SkyMiles per ticket and it was good, but true flat beds are always more favorable. Still, this is welcome news for those looking to redeem their Delta SkyMiles or American Airlines miles on the U.S. to Tahiti route.

It’s Air Tahiti Nui :) Air Tahiti is the domestic airline that operates a bunch of ATR’s inter-island
