My favorite business travel bag is the 21 inch one-touch carry-on by Briggs & Riley. It is small enough to fit in tight spaces, but It is also expandable to carry extra items during long periods of travel. So when Briggs & Riley asked if I wanted to give away one free carry-on to Points, Miles & Martinis readers, of course I said yes. We get to share a personal story about our Briggs & Riley carry-on and give one lucky reader a carry-on of their choice from any Briggs & Riley collection.
My Personal Experience With Briggs & Riley Warranty
One of the reasons I love my Briggs & Riley is because they stand by their warranty. After three long years, my 21 inch one-touch carry-on finally gave in a little bit. One side of the handle wore down and would no longer lock in place. Considering the bag had it’s ups and downs going through an average of 50 weeks of travel per year over 3 years and included an average of 2 security checkpoints per week, 2 flights a week, 4 car drives a week and at least 2 shuttle rides per week. Needless to say it was well tested.
When the bag handle would no longer lock on one side, I simply looked up the nearest Briggs and Riley repair center, took the bag in, and explained I’d like it repaired from the lifetime warranty.
My bag was up and running in no time, with a new handle, just like new.
Bag Warranty Comparison
A quick look at a bag warranty comparison will give you a sense of Briggs & Riley’s commitment to their product. This is because you are not only buying a piece of luggage, you are buying the quality of company behind the company.
Notice Briggs & Riley doesn’t have exclusions for their warranty.
Briggs & Riley Carry-On Giveaway
Briggs & Riley stands by their products with a lifetime warranty. This warranty covers all collections and functioning aspects of their bags. To help celebrate their lifetime warranty we are giving a chance to win any carry-on from any Briggs & Riley collection. To enter simply leave a comment in this post answering the following question:
What type of warranty coverage for a travel bag is most important?
- Covers manufacturing defects
- Covers airline damage
- Covers damage for any reason whatsoever
- Warranty is transferrable
- Covers all bag collections and styles
- All of the above
Giveaway Details
- One lucky winner will be selected at random on Friday, February 15, 2013
- The winner can choose to receive one carry-on of choice from any Briggs & Riley collection
Bottom Line
My Briggs & Riley bag has stood the test of travel time for well over 3 years. When a minor issue, like one side of the handle wouldn’t lock, I got the entire handle replaced for free due to Briggs & Riley’s lifetime warranty.
If you are considering an expensive luggage purchase, it can save you money in the long run to pay attention to the company’s warranty for your product.

hi. My answer is all of the above. Also, in addition to having a great warranty, I want one that’s real not phantom. by this I mean – user friendly. that they have customer service who tells me where to bring the luggage, or make it easy and free to ship it. I’ve had lots of items with wonderful warranties that are useless because of all the hoops one has to jump through to use them.

Briggs & Riley warranties are the best. Not all lifetime warranties are created alike. I am a former Kirkland luggage fan, from Costco, which also offers a lifetime warranty — except they don’t make it so easy to get your bags fixed. So after my third Kirkland bag died, I made the switch to Briggs & Riley and couldn’t be happier. My local dealer also offers a loaner bag while mine is being serviced. It doesn’t get any better than that folks.

I Believe 1, 4, & 6 should be the priority. Bags are items that get used in an environment where they might be damaged, asking a company to warranty their product for any reason is not fair to ask imo. Also airlines should cover damage that they inflict upon our bags, not the manufacturer of the bags themselves.

The “covers airline damage” part of the warranty is most important to me, and it’s the main reason my last few pieces of luggage were all from Briggs & Riley.
When I was a kid, I remember the commercial with the gorilla flinging passengers’ suitcases around the way a toddler might play with empty cardboard boxes. I (and lots of other people) mistakenly remembered the luggage company as Samsonite, but it was actually American Tourister (thanks, Google!). After flying numerous 50K to 100K-mile years since then, I’m more convinced than ever that gorillas really are abusing our bags moments after the conveyer belt whisks them out of sight. Why? Well, I have yet to see anything happen at the gate, on the tarmac, or in the baggage claim area that explains the amount of damage heaped upon my bags, and – believe me – I’ve spent plenty of time waiting for a flagrant foul to happen on my watch.
So, it’s gorillas, as it has been for at least forty years, when that controversial undercover footage first surfaced on TV. What do they do exactly? On my bags, they’re obsessed with the solid metal zipper pulls, which the gorillas tweak and twist like cherry stems, most likely in retaliation for my careful habit of not packing anything interesting in my checked luggage. If the gorillas happen to be really worked up, they may decide to move on to the zipper track and teach it a lesson or two as well.
How many manufacturers cover this sort of damage in their warranty? Not many, but Briggs & Riley will. The gnarled zipper pulls aren’t a big deal, generally requiring nothing more than a short stay at a local reseller. The ganked-up zipper track, however, ended up turning into a total replacement, which was an exact match of my original bag, except in brand-new condition. Their repair department may hope they’ve seen the last of me, but as long as I keep traveling, and gorillas continue to be economical to employ, I’m fairly certain I’ll keep traveling with Briggs & Riley luggage and sending them the victims when the gorillas attack (and they will).

The reason being that it needs to cover damage for any reason, but a couple of times I’ve given old luggage to family members and replaced mine at times, so I think it’s really crucial that it’s transferrable as well!
