Sunny Seattle Days – Trip Planning

With four sunny days in Seattle we knew we hit the weather jackpot with the timing of our trip. This was our first trip to Seattle and we were determined to make the most of it. Having consulted with a few friends who live in Seattle, we had our game plan lined up. We’d spent four days in the Seattle area hiking mountains, wandering the city, exploring islands and tasting the sweetest nectar that the Seattle wine region had to offer.

Trip Planning

Mrs. Weekly Flyer and I planned this trip about two weeks prior to departure. I was in a different city on assignment so the plan was for Mrs. Weekly Flyer and I to meet in Atlanta and catch the same flight to Seattle. I had a $400 voucher that I could use for Mrs. Weekly Flyer’s ticket and my ticket to Seattle was less than the cost to go home for the weekend. After I purchased our tickets I applied Delta’s infamous system wide upgrades that I had received as part of Choice Benefits that guaranteed us two seats in First Class all the way to Seattle.

We checked in and had difficulty since we were departing from different cities. Fortunately, we were able to hand over the certificates and receive our boarding passes for the connecting flights. We met in Atlanta, grabbed a drink and headed off to board our plane and settle into seats 2 A and 2B for our long flight out to Seattle.

Arrival Into Seattle

There was low cloud cover on approach and once we descended below it, we had a great view of Puget Sound on approach.

These were some of the last clouds we would see for days.

We picked up our rental car and headed to the W Seattle where we were upgraded to a Cool Corner Room based on my Platinum status with Starwood Preferred Guest. But this stay wasn’t about the hotel. It was about seeing Seattle and the surrounding area.

We had a lot to do and a little time to do it. Getting a good vantage point from the Space Needle was just the start.

Bottom Line

Using Delta’s system wide upgrade certificates only cost us a little extra time to book the tickets and a few extra bucks to purchase an eligible fare class ticket. The best part was we got to fly Delta’s First Class all the way to Seattle where the sun was waiting to show us some of what this area has to offer.
