Delta Sky Club Happy Hour “Enhancement” And Snack In Sky Club

Posted on: May 16th, 2013 by: The Weekly Flyer

I stumbled upon the best Sky Club snack a while ago and haven’t been able to kick the habit since. Almost every time I enter a Sky Club I just have to try it. My favorite thing to wash it down on a Thursday evening has always been a complimentary Heineken during a Sky Club and Points, Miles & Martinis Happy Hour.

Delta “Enhances” Sky Club Beer Offering

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. Effective Wednesday May 15, 2013, Delta will only serve complimentary domestic Budweiser and Miller Lite beers. The premium beers like the Heineken and the Belgian Style Blue Moon will be offered for purchase on the Luxury Bar menu. Granted, I like to place an order for a Luxury Bar drink from time to time, like the Delta Nonstop, but I really enjoyed my complimentary imported beers in the Delta Sky Club. Delta, please bring them back to the complimentary menu.

I personally think this is a bad move. One of the big draws to the Sky Club for me has always been to savor a complimentary happy hour drink before the flight (where I’d then pick up a Woodford Reserve). Without that draw, the Sky Club is just another crowded bar, especially in LaGuardia on a Thursday evening.

My red line in the sand with Delta is the complimentary in-flight premium beverages in First Class like Woodford Reserve. No way can they enhance those off a complimentary menu.

Happy Hour Diet Coke Style

Today I confirmed the complimentary beer changes while visiting a Sky Club. Instead of partaking like I usually do, I went with a diet coke to save the calories.

My Favorite Sky Club Snack

My favorite Sky Club snack has always been Nutella with Biscoff cookies. I usually grab a handful of the delicious cookies and place them into a small plastic cup that is meant to be used for olives. Then I grab a Nutella and I’m in business.

I usually get about 3 cookies per Nutella pack and try to stick to no more than 2 Nutella packs. You got to know when to say when, right?

Bottom Line

Delta has made a short sighted decision that they feel is in the best interest of their bottom line. For me, it will just push me that much closer to the the nearest restaurant if I want a wider selection of premium beers and a real snack before my flight.
