Lufthansa launches new nonstop from Vancouver

Posted on: May 14th, 2013 by: alex

On May 16, Lufthansa will launch new daily nonstop service from Vancouver to Munich.

LH 476 Munich 15:30 hrs – Vancouver 17:05 hrs
LH 477 Vancouver 18:45 hrs – Munich 14:00 hrs (+1 day)

This flight will be served by an A330-300 based in Munich which means Vancouver flyers now have the ability to fly on an aircraft with Lufthansa’s new First Class seats.  The flyertalk thread with configuration data can be found here.  Currently all 6 MUC-based A330’s have the new First Class and 3 have the new Business Class as well.

Availability

An initial look at availability doesn’t reveal much.  I don’t see any First Class available as of now and decent Business Class for two people over the next couple months however I expect this will change based on the season.  As a reminder, Lufthansa First Class is only released to partners 15 days out though one can time the release down to the hour as discussed here.

The bottom line

Availability on Lufthansa First Class from the west coast is quite competitive especially on aircraft with Lufthansa new First Class so this is a welcome addition.  Lufthansa First Class is a phenomenal experience so if you can handle the risk of booking the award in close, you are in for a special treat.

I have been traveling every week as a business consultant for a little over four years now.  I average around 4 nights per month in my Chicago apartment but I am OK with that. Do not fly Lufthansa First Class on the A380!

Posted on: December 10th, 2012 by: alex

Flying First Class with Lufthansa on the A380 seems like a good idea at the time when you are being wined and dined like royalty laying on a bed in the sky……but just wait until you touch down and board a future flight. You start asking yourself questions like….. Why don’t I see this pre-flight?… continue reading

How to time the release of Lufthansa First Class award inventory for partner airlines

Posted on: November 26th, 2012 by: alex

Flying First Class on Lufthansa using United miles is probably one of the very best awards to Europe. In fact, I could even agree with those who argue Lufthansa First Class is one of the very best awards to Asia via Frankfurt/Munich, assuming you REALLY like to fly as I do. A few days ago… continue reading
