Confirmed – British Airways 100,000 Bonus Offer Expires June 7th

Posted on: May 8th, 2012 by: The Weekly Flyer

I’ve confirmed with my sources that the huge 100,000 bonus Avios points offer from British Airways will expire on June 7th. In the past, we’ve shared how powerful Avios points can be with both short and long haul flights. When you can get a one-way ticket for as little as 4,500 Avios points, it is hard not to jump on an offer that gives enough points for over 22 short haul one-way tickets (100,000 bonus offer / 4,500 per ticket).

When you add the ability to have multiple members linked in your family account, it is even more powerful because you’ll have access to that many more points to book free award tickets.

Here are some highlights of the 100,000 Bonus Avios Points offer with the British Airways credit card.

100,000 Bonus Avios Points

  • You will get 50,000 bonus Avios after your first use of the card
  • 25,000 bonus Avios after you make $10,000 in purchases within the first year of account opening
  • Plus an additional 25,000 bonus Avios after you make an additional $10,000 in purchases also within the first year of account opening

This is a lot of spending for 100,000 Avios points but if you can swing the spend, the 100,000 Avios points can offer big value.

Smart Chip Technology

  • Smart chip technology allows you to use your card for chip-based purchases in Europe and beyond
  • I haven’t used this technology but it sounds cool

No Foreign Transaction Fees

  • You will not be charged a foreign transaction fee when you make purchases abroad
  • It is important to have a card in your wallet that doesn’t charge you a ~3% foreign transaction fee
  • By avoiding this fee, you can save big bucks on long over seas trips

Companion Travel Together Ticket

  • Every calendar year you make $30,000 in purchases on your British Airways Visa Signature card, you will earn a Travel Together Ticket good for two years when you redeem for a flight on British Airways
  • Taxes and fees apply
  • This is one of my favorite benefits of the card, however the companion ticket is only good for a flight on British Airways metal
  • Although we earned a companion ticket last year, we didn’t use it because we choose to redeem our British Airways miles on an American Airlines first class ticket to Buenos Aires

Points Earning

  • Earn 2.5 Avios for every $1 spent on British Airways purchases
  • Earn 1.25 Avios for every $1 spent on all other purchases

Bottom Line

The offer has been confirmed to expire on June 7th. We don’t know what the offer will be after June 7th, but the expiration date even shows June 7th on the official Chase credit card offer link. So if you have been on the fence but leaning towards this 100,000 British Airways Avios points offer, you still have a few more weeks to take advantage and get in on the 100,000 bonus point sign up offer.

In my next post, I’ll share my journey up to NY and how I flew for only 7,500 Avios points one-way.

Only 2 Hours Until Chase Freedom $200 Cash Back Offer Goes Away

Posted on: April 16th, 2012 by: The Weekly Flyer

Update: $200 offer is down. The old $200 cash back Chase Freedom offer went away at 10 AM this morning. It is reasonable to suspect the new offer will go down to $100 for two reasons. First, Chase has recently lowered other credit card offers like the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Second, their own website shows… continue reading
