Crystal Clearwater – Gulf Front Suite At Hyatt Regency
Our first trip with Baby Flyer was a success. Not because we were upgraded to a two bedroom Gulf Front suite on a points reservation, but because we were able to spend time with family and reconnect. But the two bedroom Gulf Frontsuite, complimentary Diamond breakfasts and great weather certainly helped.
From before we arrived to the time we left, the Hyatt Regency Clearwater really took care of this Diamond member and our family. Our pre-arrival request for a space available upgrade (automated in the Hyatt reservation system) was exceeded with a two bedroom Gulf Frontsuite complete with a crib for Baby Weekly Flyer. This was enough space for us to invite a family member to stay and help with Baby Weekly Flyer while we enjoyed some time with friend at a wedding nearby.
The Hyatt Regency Clearwater Florida is a across the street from Clearwater Beach. The hotel has 250 spacious suites ranging from 600 to 2,000 square feet. This Hyatt is a category 5 requiring 18,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points per night. We cashed in 54,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points for a 3 night stay.

Living Space
The Hyatt Regency greeted us with a bellman to take our bags and a glass of champagne at the check-in desk. After handing the front desk agent my credentials, he informed us that a space available Diamond upgrade was given to us in the form of a two bedroom Gulf Front suite.
Upon entering the room, there is a small seating area next to a large, fully equipped kitchen. There was a dishwasher, refrigerator, stove, microwave, and even a blender to make homemade margaritas if you choose.
The kitchen also had a bar with two bar stools for seating.
The living room came with a flat screen television, two couches, sliding doors to the patio and views of the pool and beach.
The suite was as big as an apartment and had two air conditioning controls. We quickly used the VIP air conditioning trick to cool down the room. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can use the trick I described in this post to override the air conditioning setting to “VIP” and turn down the temperature to very cold if you like.
First Bedroom
This suite had two bedrooms which meant we had extra space for a family member as well as Baby Weekly Flyer’s crib to sleep at night. The first bedroom had a queen size bed great for one or two extra people.
The first bedroom was located next to the second full bathroom.
Master Bedroom
The master bedroom had an unobstructed view of the Gulf. The bedroom was in direct sun in the afternoon so we would pull the privacy shade and use the VIP trick in this room to keep it cool.
When we arrived, Baby Weekly Flyer’s crib was already set up. Perfect execution of our pre-arrival request by the hotel.
The bedroom had it’s own master bathroom attached with a full soaking tub.
The bathroom also had a walk in shower in addition to the full soaking tub.
The amenities were the Eucalyptus products by portico. Contrary to popular comments on forums and blogs, I actually like this product. It isn’t my favorite, that title is held by the St Regis bathroom product, but I like this product just fine.
Room With A View
Our suite was located at the end of the hallway towards the beach on the 15th floor. You can see the floor map in the picture below.
The view from the patio was an unobstructed view of the beach. We could hear the gentle music from a live band during a wedding happy hour in the evening while having our own on our suite patio.
Bottom Line
Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Regency Clearwater. It was convenient to Tampa and really treated this Diamond member well. We felt we got a deal redeeming t 18,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points per night for an upgraded stay in an Gulf Front two bedroom suite. There are less expensive and more expensive options on Clearwater beach, both in terms of points and spend. But for us, the Hyatt Regency was a perfect place to spend a few days in the sun catching up with family and friends.
