Holiday Inn brand enters the timeshare business

Posted by: PointsWizard

Read More in: Holiday Inn®, Orange Lake, Orlando, timeshare

Breaking News

“InterContinental Hotels’ Holiday Inn brand is stepping into the timeshare market with the launch of a new venture with The Family of Orange Lake Resorts.

The new venture, a licensing and marketing arrangement called Holiday Inn Club Vacations, comes at a difficult point.

IHG rivals Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc. and Wyndham Worldwide Corp. both reported declining second-quarter timeshare sales in some markets, particularly Hawaii. Wyndham has also seen higher level of defaults by buyers.

“It is indeed a challenging time, given the economy,” said Christian Hempell, who will direct the new Holiday Inn timeshare brand as vice president of Holiday Inn Club Vacations.

He said the market for timeshares “seems to be very, very resilient,” however.

IHG stressed that its deal with Orange Lake requires no capital investment. Orange Lake will continue to own, operate and develop its four timeshare resorts, all of which are included in the deal.

Orange Lake, which has more than 120,000 owners, has seen 20 percent sales growth this year without a jump in default rates, he said.

Holiday Inn Club Vacations will launch in December 2008 with Orange Lake’s 2,412 villa property in Orlando, Fla. The 1,400-acre resort is next to Walt Disney World Resort.

Later, Orange Lake’s three smaller resorts in Vermont, Wisconsin and Panama City, Fla., will convert to the Holiday Inn brand. ” (via finance.yahoo.com) by Kristen A. Lee

Fall in Las Vegas: Nothing Better!

Posted by: PointsWizard

Read More in: Bette Midler, Caesars Palace, Cher, Chriss Angel, Cirque du Soleil, Elton John, Flamingo Hotel, Las Vegas, Las Vegas Travel Deals, Luxor, Red Piano, travel

The temperatures are, slowly but surely, cooling down, the kids are back in school, and the adults are all ready for a little fun! What better way to celebrate than at THE adult playground of America, Las Vegas. There are tons of reasons to visit Las Vegas in the fall, but one of the main ones is that the best Las Vegas shows are all opening all along the Strip!

(Pointswizard.com Spin: Click on any of the RED links to get more details)

New to the Vegas Strip, past teen heart-throbs, Donny and Marie Osmond head to the Flamingo for an act you will never forget! The duo will sing all of their greatest hits and they will take you back through your childhood memories. You will not want to miss it! The show is NOW open, so you will want to get your tickets well in advance. Many of their shows have already sold out.

Cher is another show that you will not want to miss! Cher is back, and better than ever! After her “Farewell Tour,” Cher wasn’t ready to throw the towel in quite yet! She was ready for more! So, she found it fitting to return to the city which practically launched her career. Singing songs from her very first album all the way up to her most recent album and singles, you will hear all of her greatest hits. Having teamed up with original costume designer Bob Mackie, again, you know her outfits and performances are sure to be over the top and extremely Vegas-like! Cher will be performing until September 30th at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

After Cher, Bette Midler will bop back into the Colosseum at Caesars Palace to take over where Cher left off. Bette Midler will win you over with her warm and melodic voice and her witty sense of humor, that usually pokes fun of none other than herself. At 61 years young, audiences will be taken back through the eras of Bette’s golden days all the way up to today. She is truly an American movie and music icon and a pleasure to see on stage. You will not want to miss it! Bette will be performing until October 7th, when Elton John will scoot in and do his last Las Vegas stint.

Elton John and the Red Piano tour will have its first performance of the fall on October 22nd. Returning to the stage at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Elton is ready to perform and please all who attend. Singing all of hits with all of his usual flare, you can expect to be completely entertained. Elton John represents everything that Las Vegas is all about, so it is a match-made-in-heaven that he is now on the Strip!

Another GREAT show to look forward to is the mysterious opening of CRISS ANGEL Believe! The much anticipated show has been pushed back once, and then the show was pushed back AGAIN for its set opening (perhaps because of all the intense and highly intricate tricks up his sleeve). The show, presented by Cirque du Soleil, is promising to be one of the best that they have ever produced. With the tricks and illusions of famed magician Criss Angel at its core, Believe is setting up to be, well, unbelievable! With set choreography, magic, illusions, and MORE, Believe is THE must see show of the fall! Criss Angel Believe can be seen in the custom designed theater at the Luxor Hotel and Casino

As you can see, there has never been a better time to come to Las Vegas. The Las Vegas shows are top-of-the-line, the weather is cooler, and all of the kids are back in school. So, take a weekend or a few days off for yourself to enjoy all that Las Vegas has to offer!

What can I do if my flight is canceled?

Posted by: PointsWizard

Read More in: Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, JetBlue, Northwest Airlines, US Airways, United Airlines, american Airlines, canceled flights, delays, rule 240, travel

“Question: In light of how the airlines are cutting back their schedules this fall, what can I do — and what recourse do I have — if my flight is canceled?

Answer: As airlines look to cut capacity, a lot are rescheduling passengers on other flights — but some aren’t advising passengers of the changes ahead of time, according to Anne Banas, executive editor of SmarterTravel.com.

But before you even get to the airport, there are several things you can do to prevent a potentially messy experience.
Story continues below ↓advertisement

Banas recommends signing up for alerts through your airline or a booking Web site (such as Orbitz, Travelocity or Expedia) to keep you informed about your flight and any changes. These alerts, which can be directed to an e-mail address, cell phone or PDA, are especially important as your flight time approaches, Banas said.

If your flight is canceled completely for a reason within the airline’s control (read: not weather), Banas suggests being prepared with some information that can get you on another flight as soon as possible.

First, take a look at flights leaving around the time of your departed flight. It’ll save you time and effort at the airport if your flight gets canceled, and will give you a leg up when negotiating for a change to your ticket.

She also recommends printing out the airlines’ “Contract of Carriage” before you arrive at the airport. This contract will spell out what your rights are in the event of a canceled flight.

Fact File
A look at U.S. airlines’ domestic capacity cuts

AirTran Airways: Plans for capacity to fall 7 percent to 8 percent between September and December.

Alaska Airlines: Its parent company has said the carrier’s fourth-quarter mainline capacity will be cut by 5 percent compared with 2007.

American Airlines: Plans to cut its U.S. flying by up to 12 percent after the busy summer travel season ends.

Continental Airlines: Its plans include reducing flights in the U.S. this fall by about 10 percent.

Delta Air Lines: It has said it intends to cut domestic capacity by 13 percent during the second half of the year. A spokeswoman said a good portion of that would come during the fall.

JetBlue Airways: It has said it expects September capacity to be down 10 percent and does not expect to grow next year.

Northwest Airlines: It is planning to cut fourth-quarter consolidated domestic capacity by 7 percent to 8 percent.

United Airlines: Fourth-quarter mainline domestic capacity will shrink 16 percent compared with the previous year.

US Airways: It will reduce capacity 6 percent to 8 percent on domestic flights in the fourth quarter.
Source: The Associated Press
Although each airline has a slightly different contract of carriage, most airlines will rebook you on a flight within four hours of the original flight. If the airline can’t rebook you within that time, you can ask for a hotel voucher. Food vouchers are also negotiable.

When you get word of that canceled flight, Banas recommends calling the airline right away. Standing in the customer service line with hundreds of other passengers will likely cause you more headaches and might not get you the speedy change you would like. Instead, Banas suggests doing both: Dial the airline on your cell phone while you’re standing in the customer service line.” ( via www.msnbc.msn.com )

Porn on a plane: Flight attendants want filters

Posted by: PointsWizard

Read More in: american Airlines, internet, porn, travel

“Coffee, tea, or porn? “I don’t think so,” say American Airline flight attendants.
Leaders of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, which represents some 19,000 workers including American Airlines flight attendants, asked American Airline’s management this week to consider adding filters to its in-flight Wi-Fi access to prevent passengers from viewing porn and other inappropriate Web sites while in-flight.

A union representative told Bloomberg News that attendants and passengers have raised “a lot of complaints” over the issue.

American Airlines is one of several airlines testing in-flight Internet access as a way to lure more passengers. American has been offering the service on a limited basis since August 20th on some flights between New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, and between New York and Miami. The cost of the service on cross-country flights is $12.95, and it’s $9.95 on the New York to Miami route.

The current program is in a 3- to 6-month trial period, and the airline plans to review usage and feedback on the service at the end of that period, an American Airlines spokesman told Bloomberg.

The controversy has stirred up an ongoing debate about whether Internet access in public places should be restricted. Earlier this year, the Denver International Airport took a lot flack for blocking access on its free Wi-Fi network to Web sites that officials deemed offensive.

The argument was made by Denver airport officials that users must abide by their rules because they are providing the service for free. But that case is harder to make for in-flight passengers, who are paying for Internet access.” ( via news.cnet.com ) by Marguerite Reardon
