United is the absolute WORST. To get an upgradeable fare it costs three times what an economy ticket costs, then you immediately find out there are no upgrades available!
When you try to use miles for a business class seat, same smell, no seats available. Yet if you check on Travelocity using "buy a business class" selection, you see it's totally wide open.
Delta absolutely sucks, too, so what's left? American? Thanks to the Airline Deregulation Act we are now in a totally non-competitive environment. Thanks a lot, congress!

We just flew from St. Louis to O'Hare to Beijing to Pusan, Korea. Two weeks in advance we called United to upgrade on the leg from O'Hare to Beijing. They said they could only guarentee the STL to O'Hare leg for upgrade...gee, thanks, upgrading for a 45 minute flight. They said they could request upgrade on the long leg but whether we got it or not we would be charged $400 apiece ($800) plus 25,000 miles. We did not request upgrade at that time and waited to get to the airport in STL. We finally got upgraded in Chicago but only after two trips to the check-in counter at an over-crowded gate. I've said I'm done with United for a long time but now I'm serious. I just don't know anyone that is less horrible.

I just tried to book award seats to Portland Oregon from Philadelphia 3 months away and came up empty. I now can only get 40000 mile seats despite the fact that partner US Air's 1 non-stop daily to Portland has many empty seats on many days. United sucks and I too will be ditching the credit card and their service.

I agree how impossible it is to get anywhere decent using our United Mileage Points. Never any seats, points have increased to fly International...blah blah blah. I've had it with United Visa and it is getting cut up just as soon as we receive our Capital One Visa...so long United, it's been a painful 10 years with you. Losers!!!

I just quit the loyalty program with Delta. They just cancelled 33,000+ without warning and I immediately contacted them to see what we could do in that I was dealing with a sick husband and he had recently died. They told me tough luck. Now I won't fly them as I have many other choices. The United Visa card is impossible to use and I am getting ready to quit that too. One poster said that American works well and I think that Alaska does too. I will investigate.

I did cancel my UAL visa and started using AX, but gave it one more chance since I already had over 100K and I'm taking a trip to Europe next year. I haven't been overseas in a long time due to salary cuts and now I want to get my money from this plan. I have PAID for their Visa, and I PAID alot of money to UAL to build miles when I could have gone non-stop on other airlines. Last time I tried to use miles to go overseas for my company, I even wrote to the Attorney General's office and no one did anything. I've heard every rotten explanation there is and I think a class action lawsuit is going to be the only way to get resolution. A business class ticket to London or Madrid is worth a few grand and if I don't get my seat next year exactly when I want it - on the Star Alliance - because I'm going into Gatwick, I'm calling up a few lawyers.
