Flyer Talkers are everywhere and so naturally when the latest odd airborne event (possible breakdown by co-pilot) occurred a Flyer Talker was on the spot. painintheuk is now in demand by reporters - read about it here.

No blackouts for ALL Hilton HHonors members
This announcement brought to you by Randy and Inside Flyer. The “no blackout on awards” rule currently offered for HHonors Diamond and HHonors Gold members is to be extended to all HHonors members from 1 February. Already there is a heated discussion in this thread with some glass half full and glass half empty views. What do you think will be the impact? Is this a good move or not? What if you are not already a HHonors member - will this encourage you to join?
Are you paying more than you should?
Some airlines have a nasty habit of automatically signing you up for insurance when you purchase a ticket online, with a not-so-obvious option to de-select. If you think this only happens with low cost carriers, think again. Better yet, read this thread.
FFP mileage history
United Mileage Plus allows it’s members to get a printout of their account history from right back when they joined. For some FTers this printout must contain a fascinating flight record with all sorts of odd destinations. Do other frequent flyer programs offer this service?
I Have a Crush with the Flight Attendant from That Safety Video!
No — not me!
FlyerTalk member xj47 has a crush on a particular United Airlines flight attendant who stars in a safety video presentation.
Imagine, then, how xj47 felt when he actually met her on a United Airlines flight!
Did sparks fly? Are engines turning? Was love in the air? Is xj47 flying high in the clouds? Are there wedding bells on the horizon? Was xj47 dumped out of the clear blue sky, or will they wing it together by piloting a potential relationship? Did xj47 crash and burn?
Find out for yourself what happened in this potential love story in the 757/A320 safety video FA thread.
Got a Question for a United Airlines Flight Attendant?
You have come to the right place!
Post your question in the now-popular United Flight Attendant Q&A thread!, or review questions asked by other FlyerTalk members who regularly are passengers on United Airlines.
Questions already posted to that thread include:
- Why does extra wine get dumped out instead of being corked & given out?
- What control, if any, do you have over which trips you take and with whom you work on board?
- How hard is it to read the pre-flight “water landing” part without breaking down?
- Do FA’s have any training to stop crying babies?
- What’s the best way to pick up a FA?
(Hey, I’m single now.)
Yes, that last question was actually posted, and there are a number of humorous questions as well as serious questions being asked in that thread.
Go ahead and ask that question which you have been dying to ask a United Airlines flight attendant, or at least review some of the other questions that have been asked in that thread. However, when you do, please be sure that your seatback table is stowed and your seat is in its upright and locked position…
How is Your Food Cooked on an Airplane?
The flight attendant serves you your fresh, hot — well, at least hot, anyway — meal on your flight. You probably never gave a second thought as to how it was prepared on-board the aircraft.
Well, FlyerTalk member Kezza25 certainly thought about it, which is why the Cooking food on the plane?? thread was posted in the British Airways Executive Club forum.
I never really thought about it myself, but for some reason I have almost always enjoyed airline food despite the fact that I am quite particular about what I eat.
Go figure…
First class, first class lounge food and drink
Have you wondered just how good the food and drink offerings in an airport lounge can be? Check out these threads outlining what is on offer at the following first class, first class lounges:
- Qantas Sydney (SYD) and Melbourne (MEL)
- Lufthansa Frankfurt (FRA)
- British Airways London Heathrow (LHR)
Both Qantas and Lufthansa have sit-down dinner service complete with wait staff, with a wide selection of good food and drink on offer. Some Flyer Talkers have even been known to route through Lufthansa especially to visit the First Class Terminal and sample the extensive whisky selection. Lufthansa has reported a significant increase in sales in first class since they opened the First Class Terminal a couple of years ago.
How does your airport lounge compare? If anyone has further first class lounge menu threads they’d like to share please leave a comment or drop me a private message (click here).
Do you want to help shape a frequent flyer program?
Virgin America’s EleVAte program is in the process of being developed. As there is no legacy frequent flyer program (FFP) to deal with, the possibilities are endless. No doubt Virgin America will make a point of being different to other FFPs. What features would you like to see in EleVAte (or for that matter in your other FFPs)? Do you agree with the suggestions others have made? Can Flyer Talkers influence how EleVAte will work? Check out the discussion here.
Fork You. Lose One Day.
There are those who would consider spending an extra 24 hours in Paris a blessing and a gift.
If you are one of those people, apparently the answer is to attempt to carry a plastic fork with you through the security checkpoint at Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris.
Care to take another roll with the dice in this game, or do you believe that it is tine to quit?
Do not expect me to spoon-feed you this information. Please see the Delayed 24 Hours at CDG because of a Plastic Fork in Carry-On thread for more details.
