FlyerTalk Quote of the Day is not exactly a regular feature of The Gate, but this quote which was posted today on FlyerTalk was simply too good to pass up:
“Since I would rather normally drink horse urine than the wine they serve in the lounge and would normally walk over hot coals to avoid buffet this posed an interesting dilemma.”
Who said this, and why? Find out here.

FlyerTalk member Land-of-Miles is unsure about whether to be ecstatic or furious when mentioning the Unusual Situation @ Hilton BKK Should I Be Pleased or Annoyed?
It seems that the Millennium Hilton Bangkok hotel property found the wallet of Land-of-Miles which was originally lost in – or left in the safe of – the hotel room of Land-of-Miles. Even though the hotel found the wallet and had the full contact details of Land-of-Miles, the hotel never contacted Land-of-Miles throughout the two years it held onto the Mulberry wallet, complete with contents intact.
How would you feel if you experienced what Land-of-Miles experienced? Would you be happy or angry – or both?!?

What do you do if you’ve been charged $2500 but your receipt says fare + taxes are one fifteenth that amount? Check it out here.

You read the title correctly.
We are not discussing caviar, Kobe beef, lobster or any other expensive food or delicacy. We are discussing ham.
Apparently, the type of ham about which FlyerTalk member anaggie is raving in the OH MY GOD !!! Jamon Iberico Pata Negra !!! thread is not just any kind of ham. “All I have got to say is WOW !!! I just tasted ONE slice and ended up buying 1/2 a pound at $185/lb.,” says anaggie. This stuff just melts in your mouth and you cannot stop eating. Is there anyplace online that sells it cheaper? Just a bit?”
I do not eat ham and have never heard of the type of ham being discussed in the OH MY GOD !!! Jamon Iberico Pata Negra !!! thread, but now the search is on for this special ham that either costs the least, tastes the best – or combines the best compromise of both, if that is possible. If you are interested, join in on the search, find out where to purchase it, or relate your gastronomic experience with this delicacy if you have one to share.
Regardless, US$185 per pound is an awful lot of bread to pay for ham…

Which hotel decided to curtail the curtains?
FlyerTalk member mecabq was not exactly what one would call being in a blind fit of rage, but rather might have found having a room without the proper curtains a shade sill-y.
Instead of being blinded by the light, take this as a window of opportunity to discover what a pane it is to have a room not equipped with the proper curtains in the Strange — No Curtains thread.
As I am finished writing for now, it is curtains for this post.

Amidst a spate of price increases for snacks and the elimination of complimentary Biscoff and pretzel snacks on United Airlines flights comes the word that economy cabin passengers will no longer receive a complimentary meal on certain transatlantic flights.
There will even be certain select flights where Buy-On-Board meals will be available to passengers in the business class cabin.
The comments posted to the Transatlantic Meal Service in Y changing to BOB, plus other domestic meal changes thread represents the backlash of many angered and frustrated United Airlines Mileage Plus frequent flier members, including threats of bringing on board meals with pungent odors, patronizing airlines not based in the United States, and even speculation of the liquidation of United Airlines. One FlyerTalk member even thought that this whole story was a hoax!

How aboat a way to be financially ship-shape when it comes to fees and other hidden costs?
Cruise on over to the Hidden Costs, Unpublished “gratuities” and junk fees… thread to find out which cruise lines are all-inclusive when it comes to prices and services, as well as how to determine what fees and hidden costs may await you when planning your next cruise – or, perhaps you may wish to float your own advice by posting in that thread.
I have a n-ocean that visiting that thread will help someone plan and wave goodbye when departing on his or her next cruise.
What a way to go to hull…

FlyerTalk member PVDProf asks FT Ph.D.s: Do you “Dr.” in your FF profiles?
If you are a doctor – or even if you only play one on television – you may want to answer this question regarding whether or not you officially add the title of Doctor to your frequent traveler profiles. If you do, you have every right to do so – but is it pretentious? What is the actual meaning and significance of the title of Doctor? Does it garner any additional frequent traveler benefits that might not otherwise be realized?
I am giving you the prescription of reading the thread by clicking on the link above. Read it twice and then call me in the morning.

Not exactly…
FlyerTalk member theoflyalot asks if a Self Perpetuating Mileage Run is realistic.
The logic presents in that thread is this: “Is this realistic – buy a cheap(~210) flight from the west coast to florida with lots of stop overs. Things invariably go wrong with flights/delays etc. If you have status, with 8 segments you shoudl be able to come up with a few things to complain about.. you can then use these ~200 in vouchers to buy a new flight, starting the whole cycle over again…”
Is a Self Perpetuating Mileage Run realistic and doable?
