You could actually get paid up to US$2,500.00 to fly to France from New York…
…if you are willing to test medication for jet lag.
Is there any danger to this? Are there any expenses involved? Can one earn any miles or points as a result?
Before you sign up for this offer — if it is still available — you may want to read the Chance to test a med for jet-lag, travel free to France & get paid up to $2,500 thread for more information and details, as well as read the reports of those FlyerTalk members who already volunteered to be “guinea pigs”.

It is that time of year again.
…no, not for election of the presidency of the United States, although we are inclined to believe that there are a number of FlyerTalk members we would rather see running for President than the individuals who are currently campaigning…
…rather, it is for a seat on the TalkBoard which is, as FlyerTalk member and founder Randy Petersen says, an opportunity to “help guide and improve the community as it continues to grow.”
Please refer to the Call for Candidates for the member-elected TalkBoard announcement to find out more information and details on how to become a TalkBoard candied date — er…we mean candidate…

We know it is a fowl subject, but we thought we would wing it by keeping you abreast of the How to cook turkey? thread to ensure that there was no bones about the proper preparation of flipping the bird.
It is no skin off of our noses if you decide not to read the thread because it is merely stuffing in regards to the way you peruse FlyerTalk. Oil bet you will roast us instead of putting a feather in our caps for posting this, but it is the chance that we must take. If you do read it, it is gravy to us.
As the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States approaches in November, just remember to be thankful that we do not post more stuff like this in The Gate.
Drumstick roll, please…

The FlyerTalk thread title says it all: ENJOY 21% OFF AT HYATT (for booking before 11/5/08, Code LTGP06)
Well, perhaps it does not say it all. It is an offer available for a limited time, so read the thread for additional information and details.

…as the question is asked: are there plans for Supersonic travel to return?
While Concorde is and will be permanently retired, the answer could be “Yes”, and supersonic travel could return to commercial air service by 2015 — or perhaps sooner.
This could mean that for those of you who were passengers on Concorde and miss the experience, or for those of you who missed flying as a passenger on Concorde altogether and never had a chance to do so, you may have an opportunity to fly as a passenger on a supersonic aircraft in several years.
I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to fly as a passenger on Concorde one week before it was retired, and it was an experience I will never forget.

FlyerTalk member Marriott Concierge announced changes to the Marriott Rewards program that be in effect as of 15 January 2009, which include:
- Blackout dates will be eliminated.
- Platinum Elite Bonus will increase from 30% to 50%.
- Redeem for 4 nights and get the 5th redemption free.
…but redemption of Marriott Rewards points also increase in certain categories of hotel properties, with reported increases as much as 50% greater than current levels.
While some FlyerTalk members are happy with the changes, many are not and are voicing their opinions in the No Blackout Dates – 2009 Program Enhancements thread.

Did you know that the government of the United States offers complimentary flights from the United States to destinations worldwide?
Passengers pay nothing — not even taxes or fees.
Unlike other airlines that are looking for ways to cut back on amenities to save money, these flights offer passengers such amenities as leather seats, ample legroom and free food.
Let us see if you can catch what is the catch in the WSJ: Now Boarding: Illegal Immigrants on One-Way Tickets Home thread.

The OMNI forum was created years ago as a result of the desire of FlyerTalk members to have a place to discuss topics other than the main focus of FlyerTalk, which is primarily miles and points and, to a certain extent, travel.
The decision by FlyerTalk member and founder Randy Petersen to open the OMNI forum to all has become a controversial one.
Previously, a FlyerTalk member was required to post a minimum of 90 times and be a FlyerTalk member for a minimum of 180 days before being automatically granted access to the OMNI forum. Now anyone can view the OMNI forum, as well as search for threads in that forum via such search engines as Google. Also, all one has to do to post to the OMNI forum is become a FlyerTalk member.
Many FlyerTalk members have expressed disappointment and outrage that the OMNI forum is, for all intents and purposes, open to all. There are calls for the OMNI forum to return to its pseudo-private club-like lounge status — an area where FlyerTalk members can be a little more open about their thoughts and feelings to other FlyerTalk members. What do you think? Please opine in the following FlyerTalk threads:
By the way, by linking the last thread, this is the first time that The Gate has highlighted a thread in the OMNI forum.
