Is There an Extra Charge For a Burp After Feeding?

Posted on: December 28th, 2008 by: Brian Cohen

FlyerTalk member ittboss is not happy about being charged the cost of 6 EUR to make a baby bottle!!!

While some FlyerTalk members agree that 6€ is an outrageous fee to charge simply to prepare a baby bottle, other FlyerTalk members opine that that is a reasonable fee, especially for a room service charge, and that charging for services is one reason hotels are in business. Still other FlyerTalk members mention that when in someone else’s crib, one must abide by the rules and customs, or otherwise become mobile.

Is a change needed?

Airport Food Worth Eating

Posted on: December 27th, 2008 by: Brian Cohen

Airport food does not necessarily have to mean suffering through a warmed-over day-old burrito, a stale cold sandwich, a bag of potato chips, or even a bland grey hamburger with wilted lettuce on a soggy bun just to tide one over until reaching one’s destination.

The New York Times has published an article about food worth eating at seven major airport hubs in the United States of America. However, I would bet that the information provided by the New York Times has nothing when compared to the information and worldwide experience of the collective membership of FlyerTalk.

For example, FlyerTalk member chrissxb introduced me to a Michelin-rated restaurant located within the airport terminal in Stuttgart. What a surprise that was! I would never have known about it had he not introduced me to it. It absolutely is possible to eat a real gourmet meal inside of an airport terminal, but I am certain this example is far from isolated.

Post your thoughts in the Grabbing a Bite Between Flights – NYT on airport food thread regarding the article, or perhaps you would like to share your own airport food experiences as to where there is food worth eating at an airport.

Competitours: An Amazing Race Without the Race?

Posted on: December 26th, 2008 by: Brian Cohen

Have you ever wanted to travel in Europe in a different yet exciting way?

According to FlyerTalk member beaubo, who is involved in the development of Competitours, “Competitours offers a compelling and user-friendly travel proposition for the ‘rest of us’ who would enjoy the thrill of a competition, but with challenges that offer a more immersive and genuine interaction with European people, places and culture. Our challenges will focus on teams’ mental abilities such as creativity, resourcefulness and inventiveness instead of the brute speed and strength that characterize The Amazing Race extreme ‘stunts’. The game schedule, point system and routing are structured to ensure that teams can savor, not speed through Europe. The grand prize is unprecedented considering the reasonable cost of this unique travel opportunity. Oh by the way, the game itinerary will be a secret!!”

For more information on Competitours, please see the Amazing Race style travel thread.

Christmas Time on FlyerTalk

Posted on: December 25th, 2008 by: Brian Cohen

For some, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. Alas, for some FlyerTalk members, it is not, as evidenced in the I hate Christmas thread, as well as the I nothing Christmas — anyone else?, I don’t feel very Christmas-y this year. and Worst Christmas Song Ever! threads.

Here are some other Christmas threads of note for Christmas 2008. In the meantime, Merry Christmas!

Delta Air Lines Passengers Enter Into Unchartered Territory

Posted on: December 22nd, 2008 by: Brian Cohen

No, the title is not a misspelling, especially if you find that unchartered territory is uncharted territory for you.

FlyerTalk members in the Delta forum gripe about the lack of catering services when the flight on which they are a passenger employs an aircraft that was used as a charter flight immediately preceding their flight.

FlyerTalk member LKD23 calls it Delta Charter Flight Nonsense, especially since the latest incident occurred at an airport that became a hub of Delta Air Lines as a result of their merger with Northwest Airlines.

Go ahead and grab a drink or a snack and read the Delta Charter Flight Nonsense thread — that is, unless you happen to be on an aircraft whose previous flight was a charter flight…

Earning Miles Paying Mortgage Payments

Posted on: December 21st, 2008 by: Brian Cohen

In the never-ending quest to accumulate as many frequent traveler miles and points as possible, especially when doing everyday things that already need to be done anyway, FlyerTalk members attempt to search for every single convoluted method of which they can take full advantage to bulk up their frequent traveler accounts.

In this episode, FlyerTalk member sharmaintl asks about Making mortgage payments with a CC for miles — and, of course, the solution is never simple, as the topic is not only discussed in great detail, but then veers off into how governments and companies handle the fees that credit card companies charge them for allowing their customers to use credit cards…

A Class of Seinfeld-ian Proportions

Posted on: December 20th, 2008 by: Brian Cohen

FlyerTalk members discuss the classic Seinfeld episode where Jerry Seinfeld sits in the first class cabin on a domestic flight in the United States while his friend and former girlfriend Elaine is relegated to suffer in coach class.

Of course, their experiences were highly exaggerated.

Read the Snfeld “First Class” Episode thread as FlyerTalk members not only dissect the episode regarding the funniest moments as well as a glaring “hole” in the episode but, as true FlyerTalk members do, relate their own actual experiences, anecdotal stories and personal opinions when compared to what was portrayed in that infamous episode.
