Up to 2,000 Canada Geese may meet their ultimate demise to help prevent aircraft from “ditching” — that is, intentionally landing on water — in the future in order to prevent a situation similar to when a US Airways aircraft landed in the Hudson River earlier this year, if New York City has its way.

Is the possibility that NYC To Gas 2,000 Geese To Protect Aircraft a good idea or a bad idea?

Actually, that is not a statement of truth, but rather a statement as the result of a mistake, as Northwest Airlines is now officially a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, to eventually be completely merged together sometime in the future.

Who do you think stated that “Northwest Airlines is not part of Delta Air Lines”, and what do you think the mistake might be?

She Comes With a Lot of Baggage

He comes with a lot of baggage also.

This is not about single people who have children, medical conditions, are divorced or have other issues and are therefore unfairly and unfortunately saddled with the stigma of “having extra baggage”. Rather, these are people who apparently followed the advice posted in the Best Luggage thread, which is where you should consider going if you are looking to either buy new luggage or replace your existing — and aging, travel worn and beaten —luggage.

Worst Use of Miles…Ever!

What is Your Worst-ever Use of Miles?

Would it be when you spent them to get your girlfriend to visit you, only to be dumped by her three days later? Perhaps it was to have your sister-in-law stay with you for three months, only to do little more than fight constantly during that time. Could it be when you should have saved your miles and spent only $105 more for a revenue airline ticket? Maybe it was when you allowed all of your miles to expire…

…or, as some FlyerTalk members admit, the worst use of miles was not only such a bad use of miles after all, but also perhaps the best use of those miles?!?

Do You Lose Your Breakfast Whenever You Get Upgraded?

This question was intended to ask if Hilton HHonors elite members lose the benefit of enjoying a free breakfast in the hotel restaurant if they are awarded an upgrade to the Executive Level, where there is usually an exclusive lounge that also serves breakfast. However, some Hilton HHonors elite members prefer dining on the breakfast offered in the hotel restaurant, as it may have more food choices, as well as better food.

Then there are FlyerTalk members who are bound to misinterpret the question asked by FlyerTalk member mario33: You lose your Breakfast if upgraded to Exec Floor ? Those FlyerTalk members threw up such responses as “Oh, I thought the tread title meant I had to throw up if I was upgraded to the exec floor. Thank goodness that is not the case.” and “Cute thread title. As the spouse of a Diamond member, I’d be more likely to lose my breakfast if we weren’t upgraded to the Executive Floor.

Apologies for bringing this up.

It is Clear That the Future is No Longer Clear for Clear

An announcement was suddenly posted that Clear (Verified Identity Pass) ceases operation as of 11:00 in the evening Pacific Standard Time on June 22, 2009 due to being “unable to negotiate an agreement with its senior creditor to continue operations.”

What will happen to those who paid for the Registered Traveler (Fly Clear) service in advance? Will they get any of their money back?

One thing is clear: Clear will no longer be Clear, and it is not clear as to how clear the situation with Clear will be to Clear customers.

Would You Complain About Complaining About Complaints?

If you were to complain about the hilarious yet true The Never-ending Complaint Trip trip report, you would indeed be complaining about complaining about complaints — not that we here at The Gate would complain about complaints about complaining about complaints, but would anyone complain if we did not complain about complaints regarding complaining about complaints?

Anyway, follow the misadventures of the Dovster, a FlyerTalk member who begrudgingly escorts his “UIG”, or Used Italian Girlfriend, on a trip to the United States which involves a Presidential election, chocolate cake, free upgrades to Business Class, accusations of cheating and thunderstorms that neither of them will forget anytime soon…

175,000 SkyMiles to Go From Atlanta to…Atlanta?!?

Imagine spending 175,000 Delta Air Lines SkyMiles to take a 7 Hr Flight ATL – ATL.

More accurately, FlyerTalk member MileTex was traveling on a flight from Dallas-Fort Worth to Dubai via Atlanta on a SkyMiles award ticket. However, the aircraft fron Atlanta to Dubai was apparently consuming more fuel than usual, which could prevent the aircraft from completing its journey to Dubai. Approximately four hours into the flight, the decision was made to turn the aircraft around and head back to Atlanta. By the time the aircraft arrived back in Atlanta, approximately 7 hours had elapsed since the flight departed from Atlanta.

Because the unexpected problem would have shortened the time in Dubai to two days from the original 3 days MileTex was originally going to spend there, MileTex decided to head back to Dallas-Fort Worth and cancel the trip.

Should MileTex receive a refund of the SkyMiles spent for this trip?
