Postcards, Stamps and University

Posted on: July 31st, 2009 by: Brian Cohen

The daughter of a long-time friend of FlyerTalk member chrissxb has graduated from high school with her diploma and is readying to be matriculated as a student at a university.

Because she likes picture postcards with nice stamps from fancy places, chrissxb has launched a FlyerTalk postcard project: send wishes to a friend for her high school diploma where details are posted as to what you are supposed to post regarding sending postcards by FlyerTalk members to this successful high school graduate.

Spiritual Dining On-Board Aircraft as a Passenger

Posted on: July 30th, 2009 by: Brian Cohen

There are people who will only eat certain foods for religious dietary reasons.

For example, FlyerTalk member 1trainer1 wants to know if there are any airlines that have Halal food?

Meanwhile, FlyerTalk member haniboo is seeking advice pertaining to the best and worst kosher airlines food?

No matter to what religion you might follow or to which religious practices you might believe, you will most likely find your answer in the Religious Travelers forum. If, however, the topic for which you are searching does not exist, you are invited to launch a new thread in that forum in your search for discussion and answers.

Drink Coupons: Food for Thought

Posted on: July 29th, 2009 by: Brian Cohen

What if you happen to have coupons good for complimentary alcoholic drinks on a flight, but you are hungry and do not partake in alcoholic beverages? Is there a chance of Using drink vouchers for food?

The rationale is that an alcoholic beverage is worth approximately US$5, so why not apply that amount towards the purchase of food on-board the aircraft? That reasoning makes perfect sense, right?

Well, even if substitutions for drinks and headsets are not allowed, FlyerTalk members come up with other ways on how to benefit from the coupons…

The Flying Mega FT Do

Posted on: July 28th, 2009 by: Kiwi Flyer

Mega doesn’t seem big enough to describe the Do being arranged by a team of FlyerTalkers.

It starts with festivities in Chicago hosted by United, then a party flight to Newark. More activities hosted by Continental, then a cross-town trip to JFK for the intercontinental party flight. This is just day one of the Star Alliance Mega Do.

To follow there are more activities at 3 more airports in 3 countries in Europe over the following 3 days, involving Lufthansa, SAS and Airbus, charter flights with two aircraft flying in tandem, Randy and some moderators as your flight attendants, and more.

Wow.

Special fares for the charter and party flights, as well as connecting flights to and from this flying do have been arranged. There will even be miles credited on the charter flights, at least to some frequent flyer programs.

The first bookings (for US and trans-atlantic flights) start today. Check the current do thread to see what you need to do to participate in the FT do that surely will be talked about for years.

It is all relative…

Twitter Airfares Not Eligible for Mileage Accrual

Posted on: July 24th, 2009 by: Brian Cohen

United Airlines has been promoting airfares at www.twitter.com such as a round-trip airfare between Chicago and Philadelphia for US$90.

The airfare may be good, but there is one unfortunate catch, especially for FlyerTalk members: there is No mileage credit on Twitter Fares with United Airlines.

Now FlyerTalk members are concerned that this trend will not only continue with United Airlines on a broader basis, but also may spread to other airlines as well…

Aussies and Kiwis are Now Closer!

Posted on: July 23rd, 2009 by: Brian Cohen

It appears as though that New Zealand is now 12 inches closer to Australia.

First of all, do the residents of Australia and New Zealand use centimetres instead of inches?

Second — and, more importantly — will the airlines with flights between Australia and New Zealand shave a bit off the mileage earnings of each passenger who flies on a revenue ticket?

The Gate rarely hightlights an OMNI forum thread, but size does matter with this thread…
