As announced by Christopher Nassetta, Chief Executive Officer for Hilton Hotels, starting on May 10, 2010, guests can receive up to a 30% discount for stays between May 28 and September 6, 2010 at most of the 3,500 Hilton HHonors hotels around the world. The reduced rate also includes free breakfast.
So why are FlyerTalk members not all that impressed with this announcement of the Hilton 30% off sale for Summer 2010? Could it be because one can save up to 30% off room rates, which implies that one may not always get 30%? Perhaps it is because the rates are likely non-refundable advanced purchase rates? Maybe it is because one was able to save 50% during the recent January Sale that is now expired? Are there other reasons as well for the lukewarm response to this sale?

At the time this is being posted, The Gate’s very own Kiwi Flyer is currently shy by merely one of posting content 50,000 times on FlyerTalk. Keep in mind that content posted in such forums as the OMNI forum do not count as part of the total, so Kiwi Flyer may very well have posted onto FlyerTalk greater than 50,000 times. Regardless, early congratulations are in order for FlyerTalk member Kiwi Flyer!
However, Kiwi Flyer certainly has not posted content the most times on FlyerTalk. Find out who has posted more content on FlyerTalk in the 50K post club thread.
A lot has transpired since The Gate first reported that US Airways in talks to buy United Airlines.
First, the acquisition talks morphed into merger talks.
Then came the Headline: WSJ: US Airways Bd Decided To Discontinue Merger Talks With United.
Meanwhile, news about Continental interested in merger with United Airlines spread amongst frequent fliers, prompting the question Just how dead *is* the Continental merger…?
This story is far from over. Stay tuned as speculation reigns throughout FlyerTalk and the frequent flier community…
If you cannot stand cilantro, the ATTENTION: Cilantro Haters. A must-read
thread is for you to read.
Some FlyerTalk members love cilantro; some vehemently (or, should we say, vehemintly?) dislike cilantro. Surprisingly, there are a few FlyerTalk members who neither like nor dislike cilantro, although one FlyerTalk member oddly admits not minding the taste of coriander but disliking cilantro, which are the coriander leaves.
What are your thoughts regarding cilantro?
How much do you value your time? Short flights vs driving.
This is a good question, as there are advantages and disadvantages to both.
With driving, one has a flexible schedule, does not have to deal with security checkpoints, can stop at any time to eat and sleep as wanted or necessary, and the overall cost can be less.
One does not have to concentrate on driving when flying as a passenger on an airline, however. If there is a mechanical problem, the passenger does not have to repair it or pay for the repair. The passenger can sleep while en route, and can accumulate miles and points much easier than driving.
What is your threshold when choosing on whether to fly or drive to your destination?

This story will also get picked up on the FlyerTalk Twitter feed.
Here is an early congratulations to FlyerTalk for reaching the milestone of having one million threads posted to it. What a remarkable achievement!
So — who do you think will post the one millionth thread on FlyerTalk, when do you believe it will happen, in which FlyerTalk forum will this special moment occur, and what will be the topic of the one millionth thread?
Could the person who launches the 1,000,000th FlyerTalk thread be you?!?
