Service With More Than a Smile?

Posted on: December 17th, 2010 by: Brian Cohen

On a recent Delta Air Lines flight, there was allegedly a Blonde up from Y offering “special” services to F passengers!

Her actions not only diverted the attention of the passengers and flight attendants, but almost caused the flight to be diverted as well. She was eventually escorted back to her seat in the economy class cabin.

If she had succeeded in fulfilling her intended propositions, it would most likely have dealt a blow to some of the passengers seated in the first class cabin — and we will comment no further on what is quickly coming to be a classic FlyerTalk thread whose stamina seems to be growing as time continues to pass…

No Union, Vote Delta Air Lines Flight Attendants

Posted on: November 5th, 2010 by: Brian Cohen

Delta flight attendants vote against unionizing, but by a narrow margin.

This was an especially critical vote, as the flight attendants who were employed by Northwest Airlines but now work for Delta Air Lines as a result of the merger were unionized.

However, the drama is not yet over…

FlyerTalk Members Were Airport Gate Agents For a Morning

Posted on: October 30th, 2010 by: Brian Cohen

Approximately 80 FlyerTalk members became deputized as gate agents for Delta Air Lines on a recent October weekend at the international airport in Atlanta, spread at gates throughout every concourse and working mainline flights, regional jet flights and international as well as domestic flights.

We Were Delta Air Lines Gate Agents for the Morning as part of The 2010 Second Annual Delta Air Lines FlyerTalk Event — October 21-24, 2010., and some FlyerTalk members even memorialized their experience in this BoardingArea weblog. However, despite the fact that attendees piloted flight simulators, dined well, took part in Road Warrior Training and toured such areas as the Operations Control Center, the Technical Operations Center, the Delta Heritage Museum, the towers above Concourses A and E, and met with executives of Delta Air Lines — which included the chief executive officer — being gate agent for a morning was one of the most popular venues of the event.

Many FlyerTalk members say that being a gate agent — normally a grueling job with many responsibilities, restrictions and tight deadlines —  simply did not last long enough and wished that it could have lasted the entire day or longer. Incredibly enough, no FlyerTalk member was compensated for being a gate agent!

One would think that with access to such functions as upgrades, scanning boarding passes and making official announcements at the gate, having FlyerTalk members as gate agents would be a recipe for disaster. Not so — in fact, the weekend was a rousing success!

The end result was that not only did FlyerTalk members have a whole new appreciation and understanding about what it takes to be a gate agent and what their job entails, but gate agents also have a whole new appreciation for the customers who fly frequently. Best of all, everyone — including Delta Air Lines management — had a great time and enjoyed!

Yes — as a side note, I was gate agent for a morning twice, as pictured above. Click on the photograph for a larger view. I was also invited to write an entry as a guest “blogger” for the official weblog of Delta Air Lines.

Bonus Miles No Longer Awarded With Irregular Operations on Delta Air Lines Flights

Posted on: October 28th, 2010 by: Brian Cohen

Passengers of Delta Air Lines who experienced irregular operations, were voluntarily “bumped” from a flight or were confirmed on another flight on the same day used to have the chance to earn bonus Delta Air Lines SkyMiles and bonus Medallion Qualification Miles.

However, those days appear to be over according to the experiences posted by FlyerTalk members regarding reportedly The end of “bonus” MQM during IROPS/VDB/SDC. Apparently, there was no official announcement by Delta Air Lines, as this new policy appears to have been quietly implemented within the past couple of months.

Censorship on Avoiding Baggage Fees?

Posted on: October 4th, 2010 by: Brian Cohen

Scott Jordan, Chief Executive Officer and founder of SCOTTEVEST/SeV Travel Clothing, alleges that Delta Sky Magazine rejects ad from Scott eVest because it markets its products as a means to “stay organized and avoid extra baggage fees” with “the most stylish way to beat the system,” possibly threatening to jeopardize Delta Air Lines from profiting on collecting those ancillary baggage fees. Sky magazine is the official on-board magazine for Delta Air Lines.

However, does buying products from SCOTTEVEST/SeV Travel Clothing really help passengers avoid extra baggage fees? Does Sky magazine have the right to refuse advertising any way they choose as they see fit, and is this alleged refusal a way of protecting the business of Delta Air Lines? Is this issue legitimate, or simply a public relations tactic?

The story, as well as links to the controversial advertisements, video statements by Mr. Jordan, and related news and social media Internet web sites can be found here.

Judge for yourself. What do you think?

No One Injured or Killed in Emergency Landing

Posted on: September 26th, 2010 by: Brian Cohen

A DL connection makes emergency landing in JFK this evening, and the crew did everything necessary to ensure the safety of all on board — but we will not spoil the story by explaining it here when you can see the amazing video footage for yourself of the sparks flying from Delta Air Lines flight 4951, an Atlantic Southeast Airlines regional jet that originated in Atlanta but landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York instead of its final destination in White Plains, New York due to a malfunctioning landing gear.

This is the latest in a string of emergency landings of Delta Air Lines aircraft — and there are links to those stories as well here and here.

Where Are You, 3B?

Posted on: September 22nd, 2010 by: Brian Cohen

Hey you — yes, you. The guy in seat 3B. Where are you? Everybody is asking about you. Why have you not posted in this thread? We know you read FlyerTalk because you were caught reading it. Some FlyerTalk members who posted in that thread have been accused of being you.

After all, you and the woman in seat 2B are the inspiration for the launching of this thread that features stinky bare feet, greasy fried chicken and huge flakes of dandruff snowing down onto the magazine on one person’s lap. Believe it or not, many FlyerTalk members found the thread to be funny — even with the pictures posted in it. Some FlyerTalk members even posted that the thread made their day.

If you were a flight attendant, would you use your bare hands to collect a hair-laden towel from a woman who was squatting in her seat, cleansing herself underneath her skirt? Would you admire the nimbleness of a man whose feet climbed the bulkhead wall, almost to the ceiling? How would you feel if a missile in the form of a flying toenail clipping zoomed by and landed in a drawer of a beverage cart? Have you ever seen a woman remove her dentures and then proceeded to suck food particles from out between the teeth? Did you know that studies reportedly have found every square inch of surface of airplane lavatories coated in a fecal layer? Would you carry “grippies” or “slippies” in your “Kippies”?

The term “toe jam” takes on a meaning of its own…

Upgrade Chances Now on Alaska Airlines for All Delta Medallion Members — Except Silver

Posted on: September 14th, 2010 by: Brian Cohen

If you are a Delta Air Lines Medallion Elite Gold, Platinum or Diamond member, you now qualify for upgrades on Alaska Airlines flights, as DL GM+ upgrades on AS to start 9/1/10. — and FlyerTalk members have been reporting upgrade success.

Unfortunately, Delta Air Lines Silver Medallion members are reportedly not eligible to qualify for upgrades on Alaska Airlines flights.

This complements a promotion good until November 15, 2010 where if one can combine a Delta Air Lines flight and an Alaska Airlines flight into the same itinerary, one receives double miles.

Double Miles When Delta and Alaska Flights are Part of Same Itinerary

Posted on: September 12th, 2010 by: Brian Cohen

Starting September 15, 2010, with Delta giving double miles on DL tickets with AS segments and Delta/Alaska Airlines – Double Miles, it appears that the partnership between both airlines is strengthening considerably — and it makes a lot of sense, as each airline bolsters the other with their route strengths, as Delta Air Lines is weak on the West Coast and Alaska Airlines is weak on the East Coast.

This promotion ends November 15, 2010 — but one must register to be eligible. Once registered, the flight itinerary taken during the promotion period must consist of at least one Delta Air Lines flight and one Alaska Airlines flight to earn double miles.
