One of my tickets I unfortunately needed to cancel and get a refund. Fortunately it was a refundable fare, with a small penalty. The fare was not refunded in a time I’d consider reasonable.  While I understand some airlines have a policy of taking around 4 weeks to process a refund in part to discourage speculative bookings of refundable fares, this particular case goes far beyond this timeframe. Other airlines are happy to refund instantly (funds are back on my credit card the same day) and I’ve even heard of someone getting a refund processed before the original charge was put through!

How long do you think is reasonable for a refund to take?

    Frankly – if an airline can take your money in minutes they can give it back in the same timeframe. Shame on them!

    If they willingly take money quickly, they should willingly provide eligible refunds quickly as well – subject perhaps to verification / audit to make sure it is in fact refundable and not fraudulent. This should take no more than 5 to 7 business days in my opinion. 4 weeks is absurd – I would dispute a credit card transaction if I had to wait that long.

    2 business days and not a minute more.

    If I don’t get a refund from any vendor within 2 days of requesting and being told I would be refunded I dispute the charge.

    SQ took a couple of weeks to refund me, minus a 150 deterrent fee. Their TOC says something like 4 to 6 weeks. Any longer than two weeks is excessive in my view.

    I mailed a paper ticket to United and it took them over four weeks. I actually was starting to file claims with United and my credit card company when the credit appeared. Annoying.
