I left Honolulu at around 9:30 PM. December 31st and arrived in Vancouver at 5:00 AM, January 1st.

The Air Canada pilot announced at some point that there were 5 min. until midnight in Vancouver (it was 9:55 PM Hawai’i time or more exactly Hawai’i-Aleutian standard time) and said ‘Happy New Year’.  I’d expected to say it again as we crossed a time zone on the flight from Honolulu to Vancouver (the time difference is 2 hours, Honolulu is UTC-10 and Vancouver is UTC-8) but it did not happen.  Also, the map did not work and perhaps I could have seen when the flight crossed UTC-9 and immortalized the event by taking a photo. I asked the flight attendant about the map and she said that it doesn’t work on all aircraft and she doesn’t know why.

Could it be a security measure ?

I’d expected a complimentary glass of champagne too (maybe because a few years ago when I traveled with WestJet on the night of 31st December I was offered one, but then the plane was small in comparison with today’s Airbus).

I was deeply disappointed with the Star Alliance lounge at the Honolulu airport.

Not too much food to chose from

First lounge that I can remember of where the drinks are not freely available, you have to be served and for some drinks you have to pay; and of course the ubiquitous tip jar.

If you were disappointed by the UA hnl lounge, it is probably safe to say you don’t travel domestically in the United States much.

While not a “good” lounge, it is fairly standard for a domestic lounge here.

Why don’t the maps work? I love to watch them. I flew on AC to MUC 2 weeks ago and maps did not work! So mad! There were also a group of ptvs not working. The FA was in my area asking if mine workked and the handing out something to those whose IFEs didn’t work. Do you know what the comp is? And should I have said no, mine didn’t work?

Los Angeles and San Francisco were better, and I would venture to say much better. Of course they don’t compare with Frankfurt or Tokyo but still.

Yes, you should have said the maps didn’t work, Air Canada in my case too.
