Long flights are now a bit shorter on JetBlue

Well, the flights themselves are the same length, but their TrueBlue program has changed their metrics for counting “long” flights and the change is in favor of the customer.

When the TrueBlue 2 program launched there were two bonus schemes that came with it: Go Big and Go Long. The Go Big bonuses are based on spend while the Go Long bonus benefits customers who fly 10 “long” flights in a 12 month period. When the program launched the threshold for a long flight was 2,000 miles. That covered roughly 24 routes in the carrier’s network.

As of November 20, 2010 that threshold was lowered to only 1,600 miles. Just how big a difference do those 400 miles make? The number of eligible routes nearly doubled, with 18 more added in. It is worth noting that two of the eighteen new routes do not actually exist yet; they are highlighted in yellow below. Also, I would expect that the Anchorage – Long Beach route will be included when it launches this summer.

Here’s the updated list:

Also, if anyone from JetBlue happens to be reading this, y’all need to update the ISO country code for St. Maarten to SX from AN. It changed a couple months ago when the Dutch Antilles dissolved themselves. And the “A year in the life of a TrueBlue Member” example for earning still says the Go Long threshold is 2,000 miles, not the new 1,600 number.
