United announces new routes from most hubs

United Airlines is keeping busy with major announcements during the Farnborough Air Show this week. Today they indicated that new service will be offered on about 10 new routes from 5 of their US hubs. The routes will be launched starting later this year and into early 2013.

Perhaps the most significant routes announced are two long-haul routes from San Francisco. Taipei, Taiwan and Paris, France will see service return from San Francisco in mid-April 2013. Taipei will be served with a 3-cabin 777-200 and Paris will be served with a 2-cabin 767-300. Other routes being offered include Chicago to Monterrey, Mexico; Thunder Bay, Canada; Nassau, Bahamas (weekly seasonal); Jackson, Mississippi and additional seasonal service to Anchorage. Denver will see service added to Williston, ND. Los Angeles will gain service to Kelowna, British Columbia. Washington’s Dulles will add service to San Salvador, El Salvador.

Maybe it is just a coincidence, but no new service was announced from Cleveland, Newark or Houston as part of this move.

  1. Nice re-enhancement for SFO. I can see myself on both of those “new” routes.

  2. bravo to UA for opening so many new routes (on top of all the new ones in the past 2 years) and further widening the gap against the competition, especially AA

  3. What do you mean that maybe it was a “coincidence” that no new service was announced from Cleveland, Newark or Houston? Coincidence? How so?

    1. It was mostly a joke, mark, poking at the folks who are convinced that United is actually using vindictive reactions to the Southwest/Hobby thing as part of their route planning efforts. Those routes were money-losing for years. It shouldn’t be a surprise they were cut. Yet many – including UA – seem to be blaming the Hobby deal for these changes.

  4. the SFO routes are reinstated routes that united previously had stopped in the aviation downturn post 9/11. These are not new routes (from SFO)!!!

  5. Too bad there is zero business award or upgrade space available on the new SFO-CDG route. 🙁 A business class award would be a decent use of US miles.

  6. Oh, might try both of those from SFO, but esp. Paris! I see Valentines with the Honey coming up.
