PointsHoarder Podcast: The tools we use

So, what’s the best tool for finding award seats? If I could answer that in a single line then this wouldn’t be quite as fun a hobby. Instead, Fozz, Stephen and I decided that talking about the topic of award searching would be a great topic for the podcast this week. We managed to spend a decent amount of time talking about it and I still don’t think that there is a single answer which will work for everyone, but at least you can start to understand the nuance on the topic and why the different tools have pros and cons. Believe it or not, I even managed to remain unbiased enough to admin admit that my Wandering Aramean Travel Tools aren’t necessarily the best, even if they are pretty useful.

There’s also some discussion of award routing rules and mileage restrictions, useful things to understand when the time comes to start planning the award redemption.

Give it a listen and let us know what you think.

  1. I’m curious how many customers KVS loses vs gains with the way he goes about his business. An interesting question.

  2. Matt what do you mean about the way he runs his business?

I have been using KVS for quite a few years now, and like it. I also like EF for some fonctions it offers.

Regarding the tools like award nexus and the likes, while decent I find them too slow for my taste, if i want several routes shown directly I’ll do *A search on united or AC websites.
