Airline PassBook integration is live: United & American support confirmed

One of the most significant travel-related features of the latest Apple iOS6 upgrade is the PassBook application. It will make management of boarding passes and hotel reservations easier to access, easier to update and easier for the travel providers to push updates when things change. Of course, that’s only useful if the travel providers actually support the functionality. A day in to the great iOS6 deployment there are at least a couple airlines who are playing along.

Both United Airlines and American Airlines have pushed updates to their iPhone App in the past day, adding the PassBook integration to mobile boarding passes. Yes, you must still use the airline-specific mobile app to do the check-in and then choose the option to export the boarding pass from the app to PassBook. It could definitely be a smoother integration on that front. But once the BP is over in PassBook it is mostly working just like it was advertised. That’s a good thing for iPhone users. And there is at least one option out there for Android users, too. Not bad at all.

Any other airlines supported yet? I’m guessing Virgin Australia is since they were one of the first to confirm they would. Delta said they would, too, but their app hasn’t seen updates from what I’ve read. Who else?

    1. In the newest version of the app once you are checked in the mobile boarding pass should have the option to store in PassBook.
