Sandy visits NYC

I’m sure there are a couple points, airline or travel-related stories out there this morning. Odds are I’ll find one of them soon enough. But right now writing about that just isn’t at the front of my mind. Sandy is.

Here’s what it looks like along the Hudson River, about a half mile from my apartment in Manhattan.

a truck driving through a flooded area

a water splashing over a railing

a water flowing down the sidewalk

The good news is that the next 8 hours or so should see relatively lower tides which should help a bit with the storm surge. The bad news is that in about 10 hours we’ll be looking at high tide again and the storm will be even closer. The storm surge is expected to be 6-10 feet higher at that point.

At least I got my mileage run – originally planned for Tuesday – in over the weekend so I’ll still hit my status targets for the year. The rest of the points and travel discussion might just have to wait a day or two…
