American Airlines expands meal pre-order service

The ability to pre-order a meal for inflight dining on American Airlines is expanding in a huge way. The program, launched in a trial mode last October, has expanded to now cover pretty much every flight not operated as part of their long-haul service. The routes covered include American Airlines marketed and operated flights within the continental U.S., and to/from Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. This benefit is available for customers in the first and business class cabins.
Back when the service was initially announced I took the website for a drive. It was a pretty good setup and reasonably intuitive interface.
Apparently it was sufficiently well-liked and easy enough to implement that they’re going to cover all flights now. That’s definitely an upgrade, even if it is the same food as before.

After doing this twice, in neither case did they seem to know I did it. Luckily I still follow the FEBO rule so I always get what I want regardless.

I got an email asking me to do this for a flight in First MIA-DCA on Monday. When I went to look at the choices – no link there. Could be that there will be no choice, oh well

I did this on a LGA-DFW flight last month, I chose the omlette, but there were no omlettes boarded, ended up with the quiche. I hope that they work the kinks out before rolling this out further.

The last couple of flights I was on, I asked the flight attendants if they worked the kinks out, and the FAs weren’t even aware people had pre-ordered.

Echoing the above: This program is not yet ready for prime time. Not one of my advance orders has been acknowledged, I get approached and have to make my requests the old-fashioned way.
