Continental Joins the Biofuel Club

Continental announced today that it will be testing a fuel blend including part of algae and jatropha plants, which have billed as “sustainable” biofuels (i.e. minimal impact on food supply compared to others). Interestingly, the fuel will be tested on a 737-800. All of the other tests I have seen have been on 747s with one of the three engines on the biofuel, and apparently this will be the first test on a twinjet. I’m not sure if this is a huge milestone, but I found it interesting.

Anyway, the first demonstration flight is January 7.
