I already posted on the Southwest Mystery Sale and why I didn’t like it, but thanks to ftnoob on FlyerTalk I have a bit more on what happened. The Southwest website only shows three fares when you book: Business Select, Anytime (which is refundable), and Wanna Get Away (nonrefundable). But, there are multiple Wanna Get Away fares, and curbcrusher on FlyerTalk discovered that they’re all in the source code of the page, even if they’re not shown. Ftnoob then found a way to make them be displayed. This proves to be quite helpful in this situation, and he was kind to send over some screenshots (you can click on them to see a larger version).
Here’s AUS-OAK during the sale:
And here it is two days after:
As you can see, after the sale there are two cheaper categories available. To quote ftnoob’s post:
In this case it was the “S” class fare that was the “lowest” fare available on sale day; before and after the sale there was a “T” class with a lower fare ($99 versus $133). I don’t know whether the $119 “N” class fare existed before the sale or not.
Anyway, that’s that.
