Would You Stand on Ryanair? I Would!

One of the stories that a lot of people have been talking about this summer was Spring Airlines’ idea of having standing passengers on flights for a cheaper price. Of course, not to be outdone, Ryanair said they would like to do the same thing. Last week, the Irish carrier released the results of an online survey. 66% of respondents said they would stand on a flight for an hour or less if its was free. Of course, this would be Ryanair’s version of “free.” :D When asked if standing would be available for half-fare, only 42% said they would be interested.

Tell you the truth, I’d be willing to do it for a relatively short flight. Since I’m stuck with a college student budget, it could open up some possibilities for me. My only concern would be a delay – that extra time standing on the ground could be annoying.

I wouldn’t think that standing would be safe. ESPECIALLY in bad weather.

at first, i could take it seriously, but if you know the guy you always have to double-check whatever information you read.

I found out that Boeing has denied being in talks with Ryanair. Moreover, Andrew Davis, Boeing’s Chief Communication Manager said that due to obvious securities issues, he was not considering making passengers stand during flights.

This is the confirmation that this story was only to make people talk about Ryanair and the media fell into the trap. Once more, we have to applaud O’leary’s media-manipulating skills and remember to always check different sources to get to the truth of such stories.

@Roman – Note that it wasn’t just Ryanair doing this. It started with Spring. But yes, Ryanair loves PR.

I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but I’d do it if the price was right and if the flight was short (provided everything is safe of course).

i know that Spring is also thinking about that.
and i can understand u, everybody is looking for cheaper price. But imagine ! if you have to get to the airport in the middle of nowhere, then wait for your flight and stand during the flight (even one hour) then get to the city center, it’s usually one hour from Ryanair’s airports… i mean it’s a pretty long day!!

I’m sure Ryanair would try to tack on a fee just to hold one of those hanging straps. The other, more parsimonious passengers, would simply have to brace themselves somehow.

I am surprised how many bloggers and other media fall for these publicity stunts from Spirit and Ryanair.
